02 dodge Dakota not rpm revving but more like a high fan rotation or something sounding similar while in any gear or neutral. Manual tranny. Any idea what the revving is when not related to rpm ? Got to shift out of first at 5 mph, 2nd at 10 on to 5th at 30 mph or else the non rpm revving is excessive

maybe cruise control or vacuum leak

Sounds like a linkage issue, if not the tranny itself.

This trans has a safety built in to default to second gear if the computer sees any kind of problem. Have it scanned. It can be an input or out put speed sensor, or even a temp sensor on the engine. If there are codes that say ratio error, take it back to who rebuilt it and hope they will take care of you. I use to give a major discount if they were not too far out of warranty.

yes your tranny is shot if you have it in gear it should move. sorry :(

could be a lot of things. I personally would start with your vacuum lines... check for a leak somewhere. You can do that by spraying carb cleaner (if motor tries to die, you found your leak), or it could be a sensor, likely idle air control, mas air, etc.)

Try a tranny service change a place that changes the filter the pan gasket and fluid not some of these quick places that just drain a couple quarts out of the tranny lines and thats it that wont help but a complete tranny service should help.

if you can move it into gear when its not running, id say clutch,
but if it wont go in at all, then Im thinking shift forks or linkage

try the overdrive possitioning sensor i had the same problem its in the tranny

Had this happen on my 2001 Dakota. It was the throttle position sensor, replaced it and now runs good. Tranny shop did it.
