Raise the vehicle and start the engine. Put the vehicle in drive, make sure that if the vehicle is equipped with DSTC it is turned off. If the front wheels turn but the rear driveshaft doesn't, the most likely cause is the coupler between the transmission and the angle gear is bad.

After heavy rain, fog lamps stopped working. Checked fuses and replaced relay. Didn't help. Any ideas?

My guess here is that they are getting wet at the connection point at the light and shorting out. I would climb under, dry and clean them and then electric tape them well.

Is it okay to buy tires other than the OEM Pirelli's for the 2004 XC70? I've never had an AWD vehicle before and I'm concerned about potential problems with other than OEM tires. However, I'm also not...

You will not like the price, of any of the tire choices, you have today

Any tire will be $200 ea

The tire rack is a good site to evaluate tires

Always go to several tire stores, to look at what your
interested in. Size doesn't matter for looking at tread design

I don't think, you thought out that question
You own the vehicle, you control tire selection, maintenance, etc

OEM tires are just that. It is possible that your car came with
any number of different brands. The factory will make a run, then
switch venders. All about money & savings
Usually the OE tires, are not the best, as far as wear

All you need, is a quality tire, and the outside diameter is critical
with AWD. That said, after you inflate, buy and then measure the outside of
the tire, what do you do. If you own a shop you can try several tires

My advice, is commit to some serious money,we have no choice,we have to use
what the vehicle was designed for
I wouldn't own a 4x4 or AWD, and run a summer tire. Without an aggressive tread you
defeat the purpose of AWD
So I would suggest you step up to the most aggressive tread you can find, in the correct size
You most likely got, what I call street tires,a florida special

Those less aggresive tires are no good in snow.
And 4x4 and AWD only drives on one tire per axle, not all 4

Pirelli --from my research, coinsidently is at the bottom of the list, forget them

Volvo 1992 XC70 AWD radiator fan doesn't shut off draining the battery

It is likly a dirty relay. This is located on the passenger side by the ratiator fan, with a black plastic cover over the box. Be sure to disconnect the negetive side of the battery before working on any thing electric. Clean the relay contact points using 200 grid sand paper (wet-dry black paper), You can use a spray electric contact cleaner as well, which you can get at most autoparts stores.

The brake lights for my 2004 XC70 will not turn off. The fuse is fine. I had to remove the fuse in order to power off the lights and save my battery. Anyone know how to fix this issue?

You should be aware that these vehicles are subject to all manner of electrical problems.
In this case it is hopefully just a faulty brake light switch which is not switching off when the brake pedal is released. So have the switch checked out as a first step.

Other electrical problems you are likely to face with this model are windscreen wiper motors, other light issues and a faulty inaccurate fuel gauge (so keep plenty of fuel in the car).

Volvo XC70 I have had several computer errors

Check two items, chassey grounds by battery, transmission and starter. Also, check to make sure the alternator is providing enough voltage, should be around 14 amps. Had a similar problem with my 2002 XC70, replacing the alternator fixed it! I used the Car Talk website to find a good local mechanic vs. the stealer.
