I believe if you are just changing it may not need to reset the ecu. but if you have a code and it is a faulty 02 sensor then you need to change the sensor and erase the code by disconnecting the ground cable of the battery for some time (I have heard from 10 sec to 2 min).

SOURCE: Tranny prob Honda Del Sol

this is what a automatic trans does when it is failing, it will need to be torn down and inspected for worn and damaged parts, there are any number of things that cause this, leaking valve body, front pump O ring leaking, u will most likely need it rebuilt.

Sounds like the O2 sensor. Post the smog test results (if you have it from the exhaust). When the O2 sensor fails the exhaust doesn't get recycled (reburned) so it goes out the exhaust. With more oxygen the fuel burns better,.

SOURCE: 94 del sol auto transmission problem, drives fine

Sounds like a plugged filter. But it is internal. You have to remove the transmission and disassemble it to replace the filter.

Hi, a car that's running rich can also cause this code to set. You might want to check your fuel pressure regulator for a torn diaphragm. The regulator is on top of the engine connected to the fuel rail and looks like the picture below. Pull the vacuum hose off the regulator and plug the hose with a golf tee. Then start the car and watch for any fuel that spits out of the vacuum port of the regulator. This indicates a torn diaphragm. Please let me know if you have questions, and thanks for using Fixya.

Yes it is a emission problem, But the emmissions are a complete set of sensors, parts and wiring that does need replacement from time to time. Such as O2 sensors, temp sensor, oil pressure sensor, catalitic converter, vacume line, wiring, . you need to get the code from the ECU to get the exact problem diagnosed, Most any oil change shop can do this for free as long as thats where you change your oil, As soon as you get the code you will know the faulty part.

I have a Honda Accord 2003, how can i fix a downstraem Oxygen sensor.. does this affect the gas cosumtion performance.. how can i fix this.. Help.!

o2 sensor is very important part to the engine when it come to the fuel economy. o2 sensor send information to the computer (ECU) which compute and calculate ratio of burnt exhaust gases. if the engine is not run properly either is too lean or too rich the o2 sensor will detect it as the car will triger the check engine light. you can drive the vehicle which will not hurt it as long you can tolerated the light however the car will get terrible gas mileage and poor performance as the ECU will try to lean the engine out itself. o2 sensor is fairly cheap to replace and fix. Let assume the car get 30 mpg on the high way, running with check engine light/bad o2 sensor will change the gas mileage to 18-25 mpg. If the car is V6 make sure you replace o2 on both side. good luck!

I had the GDI done but still not running properly. splutters, shurges and has a high gas consumption not running too bad on v power

I give a look towards the O2 sensor. When an O2 senor fails the ECU will run the engine rich (better to to this then run lean and burn up valves, in running rich the gas mileage goes bad quick) This condition sounds familiar for O2 sensor failiar.
I hope this may have helped,

Make sure all your tuneup stuff is good, plugs, wires, air filter. If the O2 senser is old it can be Lazy. Make sure the oil is changed before going for test. Make sure its good and warmed up as well. Good luck

Runs fine when cold , when wamed up , spits and sputters, at low rpm. blows black smoke, wont ldle?

Sounds like an oxygen sensor problem. O2 sensors have to be warmed up to around 900 degrees to properly operate, so until they're up to temperature, the ECU ignores them and fuels the engine on preprogrammed fueling maps stored in the ECU. Once they're up to operating temperature, they provide feedback to the computer for properly fueling the engine. Blowing black smoke indicates a rich condition (excessive fuel), which usually is the result when and oxygen sensor is defective. The computer realizes the O2 sensor isn't working right and goes to a rich-fueling map for the engine. Rich running is not damaging, other than it can foul spark plugs and (if untreated for a long enough period) could clog the catalytic converter. This is better than a lean condition (too little fuel) which superheats the cylinders and causes them to detonate, which can fatally damage the engine. I would change out the primary oxygen sensors and see if your problems go away. You may need to get new spark plugs as well, especially if this has been going on for awhile - they may be carbon-covered and not firing efficiently.
