Most likely the antenna lead has come unhooked from the back of the radio. AM stations will pick up with the internal working of the radio, but FM stations have to have a working antenna to work. Also make the antenna is tight to the vehicle .

2008 Lincoln Nav radio issue. Everything works but I have no signal in my am/fm radio stations. Cd player, satellite, rear dvd sys work. I've checked fuses i do get static on am nothing on fm.

check your antenna

My radio only works for a short distance then goes staticky, also can't set the time

the operator guide in the glove box , covers time set.
all radios do that.
and if not normal, the antenna is broken or fell off the rear of radio.

if got static switch to FM ,
many AM stations, broadcase to am and fm same content.
so use FM. its static free. (by design) but does fade sooner.
you can in fact hear AM station 12,000 miles away it night
called super stations, 50,000 watt stations. ive done this many time.

did you try another car, in same spot , and same station?
are you in under ground parking?

2001 Crown Victoria, Its equiped with a AM&FM radio. the FM works fine, however the AM no longer works. just a lot of static.

The most economical solution to this problem might be to replace the radio with a used one.

I noticed static on fm station on my radio. the

i would get the alternator checked, sounds like its leaking ac current which can also kill the battery

Car radio works on am but not fm

antenna is desconnected, find lead and reconnect .

FM radio intermittent static on '95 volvo 940

Sounds like you either left something loose or lost a piece of shielding. Was there a filter on the antenna that you forgot to put back on?

Sounds like you either left something loose or lost a piece of shielding. Was there a filter on the antenna that you forgot to put back on?

the cause of this is a defective is due to one of the following:
1. Antenna is defective or Antenna coax lead to radio shield ground
2. Antenna ground is dirty or corroded
3. Poor radio chassis ground.

Check the antenna connection where it connects to the stereo it may be loose or not in all the way.
