Woulkdnt the starter try to turn if its not the starter since it is still hooked up just not bolted on
No ---This is a bad practice because if it managed to work the pinion gear would have started spinning and mashed the ring gear then kicked around and bent something --probably the armature shaft . starter motors draw up to 600amps on engagement and produce in excess of 10HP so you can see the potential for a disaster.. Pull the starter completely and have it bench tested
