No ---This is a bad practice because if it managed to work the pinion gear would have started spinning and mashed the ring gear then kicked around and bent something --probably the armature shaft . starter motors draw up to 600amps on engagement and produce in excess of 10HP so you can see the potential for a disaster.. Pull the starter completely and have it bench tested

I have a 2002 sunfire... and i have trouble turning it on. Once it startes it is stuck there because it will not turn at all. Once it is in this position the wipes wont work, the windows wont roll down,...

sounds like you need a new ignition, reason nothing works cause once it doese turn over n starts the car the tumbler is stick in the starting position jus not far enough to keep the starter engaged but far enough the it still trying to go trough the start process which cuts the power to everything else till the ignition returns to the on postion

did you try jus turning the ignition far enough to when the starter engages jus let go of it so the car doesnt start and see if everything else still doesnt work if it dont i belive its the igniton

also with out starting it or engaging the starter as in just turning the key on to get power does anything work?

Everything inside works lights radio ect but wont turn over does not even make a noise when you try to start it but everything else works radio

I would check all of your connections to your battery, starter, and your starter solenoid. Pull your battery out and have it load tested. Bypass your starter solenoid and apply power directly to the starter. If the starter turns over the solenoid is bad. If it doesnt you have a bad starter. You can smack the starter with a hammer while someone bumps the ignition, if it turns over while you are smacking it them its the starter. You can also have the starter measured for amperage draw, if it is really high then you have a bad starter. I would also check all fuses and relays that relate to the starting and charging system.

I have a 1998 f-150 4.2l v-6 tryed to start it today it turned over and did not catch. turned key to try again it bumped the starter but would not turn the engine over. I tryed jumping it but I knew I had...

When you say 'it bumped the starter but did not turn the engine over' and 'it bangs the starter' it sounds like you mean it hits the flywheel and will not turn the engine. If it engages and does not turn the motor you need to try to manually turn both directions. Do not have the key in the ignition. If it won't turn you may have a froze up motor.
If you mean the starter spins freely but won't engage the engine - than you need a new starter. Let us know what you find out.

I just drove my tahoe yesterday, pulled in the driveway and shut it off.went out to drive it today and it wont start.plenty of battery, gas.doesnt do anything when i turn the key at all, doesnt even try to...

it might be the solinoid on your starter motor, try tapping it with a hammer (its ok it is safe to do so) as the ignition is turned at the same time, it might free it...just an idea

My 1991 plymouth voyager will not start the battery is good but when i turn the ignition it doesnt do anything what could be ther problem

It may lie with the ignition system but a good chance the starter has failed. If you have the ability you can jump the solenoid to check this. If the starter then engages you know to look else where. Try the starter and move on from there.
I hope this may have helped,
Tom
