My 1998 Ford Escort recently started having problems when I would start the car; at first it would chug/ride rough for the first minute or so, and it felt as if it were about to stall? After driving for a few minutes, however, it would pass and ride along normally. After stopping to get gas the other day, I went to start the car and the same chugging scenario began, but this time it decided to stall out. So I go to restart, but when I turn the key, I got nothing. Just a little click, no cranking, nothing. So I remove the keys, wait a moment, then try again. The ignition would turn over, would give a cranking as if it were trying to start but just wouldn't fire/spark. I attempted to start several times thereafter but got the same result. I am not sure exactly what the cause is, but I imagine it involves something with the fuel pump? Any help would be appreciated.
CHECK FOR THE FUEL STRAINER/FILTER! could have been clogged.
check for blockage at the air intake.
check for battery voltage and current, insufficient starting speed makes less compression and makes ignition very difficult!
due to several ignition attempts battery might have discharged a lot! you may have it checked for its voltage and acidity level
presence of water on the fuel can also cause your problem! it prevents the fuel to ignite at the cylinder.
