Replaced keyway to water pump: Won't start!

watch your oil pressure when cranking, you have to have some oil pressure to get the fuel system to start. you may have to find the hot wire at the relay and energize it to see if it is indeed the fuel pump going out. if its been sitting and its a 97 the fuel pump just might have went, you can also try hitting the gas tank from the outside in the middle to see if that works too. have a water hose or fire extinguisher around when your working on fuel system and leave one of your battery cable a little loose..

sound like you blew the head gaskets. if you fill the radiator with water and leave the cap off and then try to start. if the water pushes out of the radiator then it is for shure the head gaskets.

Make sure it's getting fuel. Try using some ether or starting fluid. If it rumbles to life but doesn't stay running then there's a problem with the fuel delivery system. i.e.... Fuel pump, clogged filter, pressure regulator.... If the ether doesn't change the results you are getting now then it's a fire or sensor problem. Ignition coil, relays, sensors not signaling, PCM... Obviously no power to distributor or pump when key is turned on, check ignitin circuit and fuses related to pump and distributor

First thing to check is turn your key on and look for a amber light that say check engine. Make sure that light come on and go out after about 3 to 15 sec with the key in on position. If you don't have the light on the most likely your car computer do not get power recheck the fuses and fusible link.

If you have the light on then listen to the fuel pump running when you turn the car on, it should run for about 3 sec. and turn off. If you don't hear the sound of the fuel pump then it would be your fuel pump or relay. obd2 scanner tool

It sure could be. But, first...by "won't turn over" you do mean it cranks at normal speed but won't start?
A simple test of the fuel pump is to stand by tank and listen as someone turns key to on. When first turned to on, your pump will activate for 2 or 3 seconds, pressurizing the fuel system, and then shut off if the engine computer doesn't get a cranking signal. Do you hear it come on? If not, then something's not turning your pump on. If you can hear it buzz on briefly, then maybe it's your filter. Another test: Spray a little starting fluid into your intake manifold (remove the big hose going into intake manifold) while someone tries starting it.If it doesn't fire and try to stay running, then it's probably an ignition problem. But if it does fire off, then you know it's a fuel problem-likely your pump or filter. good luck.

I would have taken it to another shop and have them look at the cable they replaced it should be new. If not tell them you will take them to court and you have another shop that will testify

check all the fuses with a meter , not just by sight, then, look under the hood for the fuse block there, check those fuses also, especially the main fuses, 30 amp and above,, with any luck he didn't blow out your computer

these cars are notorious for bad ignition switches I have replaced hundreds..

Possibly air in the fuel lines. Possibly Fuel Injection Pump Case Relief Valve has come apart (funny looking ,10mm bolt with 2 round sides on left side of Injection Pump). Great site for TDIs - www.tdiclub.com - forum thread on this very problem. Great people will help get you going.
