Question about Nissan Altima

2008 Nissan Altima decelerates on its own

I have a 2008 nissan altima. when I'm driving at a consistent speed for about an hour or longer the engine starts making a sound (almost similar to the sound your car would make if you were pushing the gas and you were in park) and the car will start to decelerate on its own. I can push the pedal all the way to the floor and the car wont respond, and then magically it will slowly start speeding up again only to slow down again and repeat the cycle. This has happened a few times when I'm on the freeway and I have to pull over and let the car sit before it will drive normally again. I've asked mechanics and they tell me they can't diagnose the issue without recreating it which is difficult since it only happens on long distance trips.

A vehicle that slows down and accelerates on it's own, sounds as though it is having issues with the cruise control. It slows itself down and speeds up in order to maintain the designated speed. That is where I would start my diagnosis.

SOURCE: loosing power at cruising speed

Hi. I have two Dynasty LE cars, (a 91 and a 93). Both have the 3.3 litre. The 1991 had almost the same problem as yours except it would only do it once the engine warmed up, (similar to your freeway issue, given distance and time for the engine to warm up to operating temp.) I had it in about three shops before the dealer found an intermittent fault with the cam and crank sensors. I replaced them and now it runs just fine. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Fuel Pump

You might not have to change the pump at all. Get the fuel filter cleaned thoroughly, change it if required(its quite reasonably priced) and since this has MPFI (multi-point fuel injection) engine, either clean it by adding some nozzle clearing fluid or get the nozzles properly cleaned at a authorized service station, where they can connect it to a PC to check the status of the tiny holes of the injector nozzle.............................sodeep

My 2002 Altima SL 2.5 drives and shifts fine for an hour or so. Then it won't shift from first gear.

In spite of what Firestone did it still sounds like you have a defective speed sensor. Other people have also had this problem and it was solved by replacing the speed sensor.

I hope it resolves your problem.

Nissan altima 2005 not shifting or showing speed

The speed sensor is probably disconnected or the wiring was damaged. The CPU needs this input to demand shifts.

The RPM of Nissan Altima stays high when drive over 65 MPH.

No....the rpms differ from engine to engine and from manufacturer to manufacturer. RPM's are always higher at higher speeds.

2005 Nissan Altima cuts off while driving.

Dear Tajack73: Nissan had a voluntary recall campaign on the 2002,2005,2006 Altima's with the 2.5 litre engines It envolves reprogramming the ECM.
The campaign ID # RD0712 NHTSA #: 07V-527
