To remove the axles, remove brake caliper and disc, remove hub assembly, the center hub/axle nut and...(there are i think 3-4 bolts on the back side of the spindle to remove the hub), you may have to force the hub off the spindle with a hammer or air hammer... once the hub is out the axle should slide out of the front differential allowing access to the ball joint nuts for removal...

How do you change a front axle u-joint on a 2006 3500 dodge ram

you will have to change both sides to start with. I'm doing this on a 1996 ram 1500. first, put the truck on 2 wheel drive or neutral for traction, raise vehicle, i got a lift it's easy, remove both wheels, calipers and rotors. unlock the driveshaft nut (cotter pin) and unbolt that nut. on the inside of the hub, first mark the relation on one side between the yoke and the shaft, then, there is 3 bolts holding the hub in, remove them. next, more cotter pins, upper and lower ball joint and tie-rod end need to come out, so, unscew the tie-rod end first and seperate it with ball joint seperator. do the same for the upper and lower ball joints. seperate the spindle and the axel should come out. the rest is standard procedure to change a ball joint.
let me know if it's enough info or if you want more please.

How to remove upper and lower ball joins on a 4x4 bronco full size 1986

For Lower & Upper Ball Joint Step by Step :

For That you use a C-clamp style ball joint press to remove the ball joint from the suspension arm-note the location of the receiver cup ! For installation of the ball-joint, use the same tool when pressing the ball joint into the suspension arm-again, note the location of the receiver cup.

Step by Step :

  1. Raise and support the vehicle safely, with jackstands.
  2. Remove the spindle and the ball joint assembly from the vehicle.
  3. Remove the snapring from the ball joint. Using a ball joint removal tool, remove the ball joint from the spindle. Do not heat the ball joint or the axle to aid in removal.
  4. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Torque the ball joint stud nut to 85-110 ft. lbs. for 1983-89 Ranger and Bronco II.

How do you put in a ball joint in a 2001 sebring convertible

It depends on exactly which ball joint of the 3 per side your changing, but here are the details.

COMPRESSION LOWER ARM & LATERAL LOWER ARM ASSEMBLIES
Removal
1. Loosen compression lower arm ball joint nut. Using steering linkage puller, separate ball joint and
knuckle. Remove nut, bolts and compression lower arm assembly. Remove dust cover.
2. Remove stay. Remove shock absorber lower mounting bolt. Loosen lateral lower arm ball
joint and knuckle nut. Using steering linkage puller, separate ball joint and knuckle. Remove nut, bolt and
lateral lower arm assembly. Remove dust cover.
Inspection
Using preload socket, ensure breakaway torque for compression lower arm ball joint is 4-22 INCH lbs. (0.5-2.5
N.m) for 2000 models. On 2001 models, breakaway torque is 22-54 INCH lbs. (2.5-6.1 N.m). Ensure
breakaway torque for compression lateral lower arm ball joint is 13 INCH lbs. (1.5 N.m). Check compression
lower arm, lateral lower arm, dust covers, and bushings for damage and wear.
Installation
To install, reverse removal procedure. Use NEW ball joint nuts. Lubricate lip and inside of dust cover with
multipurpose lubricant. Using installer, install dust cover. Check front wheel alignment.
UPPER ARM ASSEMBLY
Removal
Using steering linkage puller, loosen upper arm ball joint and knuckle nut. Remove self-locking nut. Remove upper arm and upper arm shaft assembly. Remove dust cover.
Inspection
Using preload socket, ensure breakaway torque for upper arm ball joint is 3-13 INCH lbs. (0.3-1.5 N.m).
Replace upper arm assembly when measured value exceeds specification. Check upper arm, dust cover, and
bushings for damage and wear.
Installation
1. To install, reverse removal procedure. Use NEW self-locking nuts. Lubricate lip and inside of dust cover
with multipurpose lubricant. Using Ball Joint Installer (MB990800), install dust cover.
2. Ensure upper arm shaft assembly is installed at indicated angle. Verify upper arm shaft
assembly installation. Check front wheel alignment.

Once you have the correct arm off and a replacement joint (if available, some are not serviceable and require the arm to be replaced) then you will need a press or a ball joint press to change the joint. Such as

Upper ball joint removal

I have a 98 dodge ram 4wd, and i am an auto mechanic. I replaced all 4 ball joints and both axle joints and did my front end alignment in about 4 hours. The ball joints are pressed into the front axle yoke holes. If you have a ball joint press tool (which i used) it works out pretty easily in a decent amount of time. Otherwise if your lucky, you could use a hammer, which is not nearly as easy. Also, sometimes depending on how long and rusted the front end is, you might have to heat up the area a little with a torch.I also recommend using the best ball joints you can afford, because it would **** to have to do it all again after another 10,000-60,000 miles.

Remove front axle from differential on 2003 dodge ram

That works fine on a relatively new vehicle but one that has run in salt etc you'll save a lot of time if you remove the steering knuckle completey by separating lower ball joint and outer tie rod end ball joint and bring the whole steering knuckle to a bench to separate the hub/bearing. Soak everything with penetrant, loosen the bolts a few turns and try hitting right on the bolt heads. I also made a very sharp wedge from a chisel and rammed it hard on the other side to seoarate the hub. It will finally come apart then you'll see all the **** that was binding it due to an alumininum knuckle re-acting with a steel hub. Clean the hole and grease everything and fit new bearings
