My bmw e36 misfires have checked plugs and plugwires bmw e36 316i 1992 model
I've dealt with the same issue on both the M44 and M52 platform and the steps to deal with it are :
- makes sure your camshaft sensor is good
- clean/ check/ replace your idle control valve
- inspect/replace all of your vacuum hosing and air intake boot.
They are cheap and the rubber cracks on the inside where you can't see it. You can do a cheap repair with shoegoo
if it has a "bouncy idle" it's most likey a vacuum leak, which BMW's are famous for. Following these steps has solved that problem 2-3 for me.
If the coils are on top of the plugs, you could have a bad coil somewhere. Put in on a computer and have it diagnosed.

Well there are several things that could cause this problem...
1. one of the coils may not be firing.
2. the ignition module could be bad.
3. the mass air flow sensor could be tellign the car to run rich (too much gas)
4. if the car is equiped with a map sensor it could do the same as a mass air flow sensor.
5. fuel pressure regulator could be leaking at vacuum port drawing in more fuel than needed.
6. the computer itself could be bad as well.
The car either has a map sensor or mass air flow not both. The mass air flow would be right after the air cleaner housing usually a 4 wire connector. map sensor is normally located on the rear of the upper intake manifold with 1 vacuum line going to it with 3 wire connector. Hope this helps.

This is a pretty common problem. I would change your valve cover gaskets. They run around ~ 50 bucks. If they are bad it will leak oil into spark plug well and cause a misfire. Very known on the 740.. Also if tune was not anytime not too long ago id change spark plugs while you at it. Then clear the computer and if you still get misfire on 8 try changing the ignition coil which is right about the cylinder with cylinder ignition coil 5. clear the computer. if you get random misfire and misfire cyclinder 5 after then its your ignition coil. parts store runs around 100 bucks

misfire happens because there is still fuel not burned in the cylinder so when its pushed out its burned in exhaust tube because the heat thats why you hear these small explosions. this caused if your sparking pluge not firing well . or there is a leak in the intake valve . in your case i advice you to check your sparking plug . if this helped pls vooote

BMW cylinder torque setting all models
According to my service manual as follows.
Cyl head to engine block (torx e12 M10 bolts)
Stage 1 30nm (22 ft – lb)
Stage 2 + 90 degrees
Stage 3 + 90 degrees
Cyl head to lower timing chain cover 10nm (89in – lb)
The tightening sequence is from inside to outside crossover as normal. Loosening sequence is from outside to inside crossover. Remember to set torque wrench at low setting and work gradually up through the whole sequence until you get the desired torque.
