I have trying to locate the Solenoid that runs down behind the engine connecting to the purge value on top of the head of the engine in front close to the right side of the battery. What is it called lower level solenoid that runs it power through a thin black tubing all the way to the back of the engine from the purge value.
Hi Tony.
go to this link it should have it.
2004 Buick Rainier Location of all the fuel emission solenoid Google Search

ADAM
THE PURGE SOLANOID IS ON THE ENGINE WITH A RED CONNECTOR ON IT. IT IS LOCATED ON THE REAR OF THE ENGINE ABOVE THE REAR VALVECOVER. YOU ARE ACTUALLY LOOKING FOR THE CANISTER VENT SOLANOID AND IT IS IN THE REAR OF THE CAR AND THEY FAIL OFTEN. GET THE PART FROM G.M. AND THEY CAN TELL YOU EXACTLY WHERE IT IS. THE G.M. PART IS UNDER $30.00.

Change the evap vent solenoid canister located near the master cylinder on the right side of the engine or your hoses may be cracked. Good luck!

The evaporative canister purge valve is found between the upper intake manifold and the rear valve cover.

get the fuel cap pressure tested and replace if it is bad. if the fuel cap is bad the engine light will go out on its own. If it does not take i t to a garage and they will erase trouble codes for you.

Evaporative Emission Purge Solenoid
Description & Operation
The duty cycle EVAP canister purge solenoid (DCP) regulates the rate of vapor flow from the EVAP canister to the intake manifold. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) operates the solenoid.
During the cold start warm-up period and the hot start time delay, the PCM does not energize the solenoid. When de-energized, no vapors are purged. The PCM de-energizes the solenoid during open loop operation.
The engine enters closed loop operation after it reaches a specified temperature and the time delay ends. During closed loop operation, the PCM cycles (energizes and de-energizes) the solenoid 5 or 10 times per second, depending upon operating conditions. The PCM varies the vapor flow rate by changing solenoid pulse width. Pulse width is the amount of time that the solenoid is energized. The PCM adjusts solenoid pulse width based on engine operating condition.
Removal & Installation
The duty cycle evaporative (EVAP) canister purge solenoid is located in the engine compartment near the brake master cylinder.
