SOURCE: jeep stuck in low four wheel drive

Put the transmission in neutral, emergency brake off, foot off the brake pedal, now try shifting out of 4 wheel drive low. If that doesn't work, drive forward, and again do the above, trans. in neutral, roll to a stop, foot off brake, try to disengage. What you're probably experiencing is called drive shaft 'wind up', and it is very difficult to disengage, but do the above and it should shift out of 4 low. countrycurt0

Try putting the car in neutral first. Try going in reverse while shifting out of 4wd.

a reluctant transfer case can sometimes be coaxed by shifting into reverse, backing up 10 feet, and then back to forward.

Can you drive in 2 wheel drive in jeep gran cherokee 4,7 2001

I hope so, it shouldn't be in 4 wheel drive unless you need it, 2 wheel high is where it should be when driving habit are on city streets or highway driving.

I have a 1999 GMC Suburban. I have automatic four wheel drive but when I shift into four wheel high it makes clunking sound. I have not tried four wheel low. I wondered why I can still use auto four wheel...

the auto 4 wheel does the same as part time in jeeps, it engages only when the vehicle loses traction. when auto 4 wheel is on the truck isn't fully in 4 wheel drive. my 02 sierra makes the clunk noise too but it does engage. try checking your fluids, i know its way pass the time for me to change mine out.

How to shift a 1998 jeep grand cherokee into 4 wheel drive

Four low is almost never used. I use it on very steep rocky or muddy trails in the woods or to pull someone out of mud or a ditch. Though some will shift standing still it is best do do this while rolling. Four high can be shifted at low speeds of 2 to about 35mph (higher also but not really good idea) Low can only be shifted between 2 to 10mph. If you find yourself stuck and unable to shift because you aren't rolling you can also turn the engine off, engage the transfer case and re-start. That avoids having the gears clashing together. Best rule is if it begins to grind, don't force it.

Changing my 1989 from 4 wheel drive to 2 wheel drive and Anti-Locking Braking System

An ABS system will have wheel sensors installed. Remove one of your wheels and look for a wiring harness that runs to your steering knuckle(the part that you brake rotor and strut is attached to. Also, either you front half shaft or brake rotor will have what looks like gear teeth on them. These are the magnets the sensor reads. If your Jeep has either of these it has an ABS system. Secondly the chassis on the Cherokees should be the same irregardless of trim level (limited vs regular). These trim levels affect the interior trim and power extras only not the mechanical parts.
