I would make sure the core is the problem. You may have a heater control valve that cuts off flow to the core by vac. or a blend door that cuts off air flow thru the core. You will need a shop manual to replace the core. The dash and console have to come out, along with discharging the ac.
Sounds like your float or sender unit in the tank is not registering the fuel level properly. They do go bad but the problem is the unit(fuel pump and sender) is one piece and has to be replaced together, unless you find someone willing to remove, separate and repair it.
check to see if your getting fuel. you might have tripped the collision shut off for the fuel pump. If your getting fuel then check the wires going to the coil packs
A code scan can help you with that. Most common problem are fuel pump overheat (going bad) plugged filter, (Part of regulator mounted on top of sending unit), or a crank sensor that is failing (On bellhousing drivers side about 11 o'clock looking from rear) Test anything before buying parts or this can get expensive fast. (pump and filter won't show up on code scan)
