1999 ford windstar.. it will start with starter spray but won't continue to run. I have replaced the plugs, 2 fuel pumps with filters, gas line fuel filter. I was having issues with it over heating so .. I mixed some lacquer thinner in the gas tank with some gas thinking the catylitic convertors were plugged an ran it for about 15 minutes a few months back and then it just sat because we got a new car. when I tried to start it after the couple months of just sitting it won't start then I replaced the fuel pump and it would run for about 10-15 seconds then die.. I since put a new fuel pump in but now it will only start using starter spray. anyone have any ideas what could be wrong? if the exhaust is off and the o2 sensors are disconnected could that make it not start?
No the missing O2 sensors would not keep it from running. The missing exhaust pipes might not help matters. No exhaust system would cause a lack of back pressure.
I would want to know what base fuel pressure is with a gauge before and after cranking. Your thought about bad gas is legit, today's gasoline is only good for about 2 or 3 months before it starts gelling up.
Did you replace the inline filter the last time you put the new pump in ? And are you sure the pump is getting power after the key is released?
The reason I mention the bad gas theory is because the injectors may now be gummed up.
tried 2 new fuel pumps.. i hear the pump when I turn on the ignition but it will not start without starter fluid and then only runs for a couple seconds. maybe the injectors are plugged from the lacquer thinner trick i tried. Thanks for your help/suggestions Stephen. i will check pressure tomorrow and pull and clean the injectors.. haven't attempted that yet.

2 solutions: first, ignition control module is getting hot and shutting car down. 2nd; you didn't mention your dash(service soon) lights were on.

You said the fuel filter was pretty clogged up. It's sounds like a bad case of EGS(ethanol gas syndrome). The ethanol;being a corn deritive;acts like corn liquor(which is what is is), and turns the fuel to goop, and adds large amounts of water through out all the systems.

It clogs up the fuel lines, the injectors, and ruins fuel pumps. It also puts heavy carbon on egr valves, int. and exh. valves, and can ruin oxy sensors, and catalytic converters.

Let's try the cheapest way first:Buy a can of SEAFOAM and Berkline 2+2 at your parts store. Take out the oxy sensor(s) and clean the ends using the 2+2 and re-install.
Then change out the fuel filter again. Pour the SF into a tank of PREMIUM(only) gas. Change the pcv valve. Then start vehicle and let idle for 3-5 min(even if you have to rev it up to do it to get the SF flowing through the system), and then drive it 10 hard miles.

Replace that fuel filter, and then let it idle some more. Your car sounds like it is really messed up bad. Unless you take it to a garage that has a fuel system cleaner machine, this is the best way to do it.

After this, add SF every 3-5000 miles to your tank. It will prevent this from happening again. Also; to be on the safe side. Have a PSI check on your fuel pump. This goop could have burnt it up. I hope this helps.

fuel pressure regulator could hav failed-located by engine or the ignition module may not be workin-by dist area try not to be a parts replacer-buy a repair book
SOURCE: engine stalls after engine warms up. I put heat in
try testing/replacing the coil. if it stalles after the car warms up that gives the coild time to over heat and die.
