93 chevy s10 4x4 blazer, has the 4.3L vortec engine. It did sit for 2 1/2 months prior to be worked on.

IF YOU REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND UNPLUG IT,PLUG IT BACK IN AND UNPLUG IT AGAIN..DO THIS A FEW TIMES..IT SHOULD CLEAN OFF SLIGHT OXIDATION ON CONNECTOR TERMINALS..HAVE SEEN THIS BEFORE..I ALSO THINK REPAIR CONNECTORS AVAILABLE FROM DEALER

Do a compression test on all of your cylinders when it is cold. Backfiring is a sign of a worn valve seat allowing mixed fuel and air (lit by spark) to be forced back into the intake. You will probably see compression loss on one or more cylinders.
Also... there is a chance that the EGR valve is not totally seated when the engine is cold with just a small blow by. The EGR valve seats coke up over time with black gunk.

The oil sending unit is located on the engine block behind the drivers cylinder head area.You have to climb up on the motor to see it cause it is hard to see behind the wiring harness.You may also want to purchase a new sending unit because it is very long and you might need to buy the sending unit socket to replace it.Hope this helps.Good luck.
