1996 ford explorer sunroof wont close

The motor opened the sunroof but wont close it. The fact that the motor ran one way means the motor is okay. To close the roof, the switch has to reverse the polarity of the leads to the motor. That's what reverses the direction of rotation of a dc motor. I am looking for a wiring diagram for the sunroof wiring.

it would be better if it were the motor, the mechanism that operates this top is very complex, even if you get it out you won't know what to look for to cure the problem unless you see a broken part.

This website shows it has manuals and online diagrams like that. Sometimes a dealer parts guy will run you a copy of a parts diagram. It is a 13 year old vehicle- a salvage yard may have something torn apart that you could see.

My 2008 Ford Taurus sunroof wont close. What is the best way to fix this?

you can get it to close but you need to remove the cover on the rear of the sunroof. were the motor is on the motor there is depending on motor fitted a flat head on a motor fitting or an allen key fitting that turns the motor. this is usually used for opening the window to do a repair but you can use it to close the roof window it will take a good few turns. to move the window turn it and see what way its moving as one way opens and other way closes.

How do I fix the sunroof that wont close

Sounds like the timing is out. Pull the headliner down enough so that you can get to the motor. Close the sunroof and allow it to stop where it wants to. Then remove the bolts holding the motor on, pull the motor out of the way of the gears and push the sunroof closed. Then remount the motor. It should work correctly after that.

1996 Jaguar xj6 sunroof will not close you can hear motor running, how can you manual close it?

If you remove any gear that is coupling it to the motor you should be able to slide it back to where you want. I would put gear back just to hold it in place and keep it from moving. But you do have to replace that gearbox for future operation.

Are you holding the close button? If you just press the close button once (while the sunroof is open), it should close without then tilting the glass.

I have a 1996 ford explorer and my electric windows or sunroof will not work i have checked the fuses, realys and everything checks out but they still wont work what do i need to do

Find a wiring diagram and check for power getting to the window switches and out of the switch to the motor.......use a test light to check for power.

My sunroof wont close

This is alot easier to diagnose with a test light or power probe. First off, you need to check your switch and make sure it is sending power to the motor. Next, make sure the motor is getting that power through the wiring harness. If the motor is getting power but not moving you MAY need a new motor. Every now and again, I see something obstructing the track. Look down the rails for anything that is one side but not the other.

Manual close for sunroof

You can try cleaning and lubricating the runners. The sunroof will open as soon as it is obstructed, eg. A childs arm in the way of closing. The problem here is that you can hear the motor running, wich indicates a broken cable, or a stripped plastic gear.
