By collapsing you mean sucking together . . If so this indicates a vacuum being generated in the radiator by the water pump especially under rpm,s. This indicates that the thermostat may not be in the right way or you have the incorrect thermostat. I know of bottom radiator hoses sucking in from blocked radiator cores ( they can come with wire coil to prevent this) but it is difficult to see how this could be the same for the top hose which in effect is a delivery hose to the radiator.

Where is the fan temperature sensor located

actually, the ECM directing the sensor to actuate the switches. the engine thermostat is the actuator of the fans in the cooling system. and its located in the oulet port of the engine where the upper radiator hose is connected. (and or at the lower rad hose, some design on VWs).

How do you change the thermostat on a 1999 grand Prix gtp 3800?

The t-AT&T is located under the housing that is bolted to the intak manifold on the drivers side he the upper radiator hose is attached to. Remove the radiator hose from the housing. Remove the two bolts holding the housing to the intake manifold (a 10mm socket will work for this). Remove the housing. Remove the t-stat. Clean the mating surfaces of the t-stat housing and the intake manifold. Install the new thermostat. Install the housing. Reattach the hose to the housing. Top off the coolant in the radiator. Start the engine and let it idle until the cooling fans come on. Keep an eye on the coolant level in the radiator and top off as necessary. Once the fans come on replace the radiator cap and you should be good to go. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using FixYa.com!

Need a diagram so I can find where the thermostat is on a 1994 grand prix , to change it

Don't Think you'll need a Diagram, Just Open Hood and Locate Upper Radiator Hose and Just take your hand follow the hose down to Your Engine,You'll Come to a Metal Dome with a Hose Clamp and you'll see 2 Bolt Heads .Remove Upper Hose From the E ngine and Then The Thermasat Housing with Those 2 Bolts.Under the Housing is where your Therma Stats Located..
