2001 Isuzu Rodeo has very little acceleration when I step on the gas. Drags for a few seconds and then starts going. Just changed the alternator and battery last week and this started after.

How often do they need to be changed? Changed it when I had the exhaust replaced year and a half ago.

  • jenn9749 Jun 09, 2009

Great, I'll try that first. Thanks!

  • jenn9749 Jun 10, 2009

Changed the fuel filter and no luck! Still having same problem, drags like crazy at any speed seems to be getting worse (yesterday even before changing fuel filter) no change after the fuel filter.

  • jenn9749 Jun 18, 2009

Still not much luck here...can't get a read out when hooked up to get error codes. Mecahnic "thinks" computer is tell fuel system to push too much gas? Does that make sense? If so I do I get that corrected?

  • jenn9749 Jun 22, 2009

Ok...finally just took it to the dealership and was told the computer had "lost it memory" and needed to be reset. Paid the $150 to do that and now being told it will not reset and I will need to replace the computer.

If you get some dirty gas a couple of times, it's plugged. There is no time limit. It all depends on what's going in it.
It doesn't have to be that, but that's the best place to start. It could be timing or ignition, or fuel pressure, or any other engine control component. But i'm assuming you don't have any warning lights on, so the filter is first.

Check your air filter, although at the rate this is worsening, i doubt if it's that. Probably you should change spark plugs and wires, for one thing. Check the ignition timing, or have someone check it for you. If not that, it could be poor ignition coil, or your EGR, or a vacuum leak somewhere. With the engine running, look all over under the hood, and wiggle every hose you can, and listen for a hissing sound. A lenght of fuel hose held to your ear will help you if you don't have a stethoscope. It puzzles me that this happened right after you changed hte battery and alternator. Make sure everything is hooked up, and there is nothing you may have pulled off or bumped when you were changing them.
Keep me posted. I am hoping this isn't your fuel pump, because that is the worst job.

Call around to some auto wreckers and get one. Save you a bunch of money, even if it's 500 miles away. They do ship.

2001 isuzu rodeo cold start

Sounds like EGR(Exhaust Gas Recirculation) issues. As this is a second-generation of OBD(On Board Diagnostics), it will need to be thoroughly inspected by somebody with a bi-directional scan tool.

I have a 1996 Isuzu Rodeo. I just replaced the alternator. I have a voltage meter on the dash. When I start the Rodeo, it shows about 14 volts of power on the meter. When I am driving and accelerate,...

Also the voltage regulator can be going out but I seriously doubt that. When they do go out they register no charge at all at 99 percent of the time

Battery light on and break light on

Break light is no joke have the brake system checked for internal and external leaks . If none are found then itspossibly the brake hand / foot switch.

Battery lite could be incorrect battery or alternator is defective or the wiring behind alternator is corroded and lastly voltage regulator may be defective.

Engine will turn but will not start in a 2001 rodeo 6 cilinders

Nope. Just went through the same thing with my 2001 Rodeo following engine change. Check the wiring harness. There is a bundle that runs down behind the alternator. We found a small nick in one wire that was coming in contact with the aluminum sheath surrounding the bundle resulting in a short. Try that or look at the ignition module.

Car has little acceleration after driving awhile

Hello julieta_barr: My name is Roger and I will help you. If this happens after the engine warms up and the engine runs fine cold. I would look at the catalytic converter as the problem. When the converter is damaged the engine can run great cold. As the engine warms up a bad converter will close off and choke the exhaust down. Top speed will drop off dramatically. I would also replace the fuel filter as this could cause a problem. The converter can be checked but you need the equipment to do it. Should you have any questions please just ask. I will be glad to answer them for you. Please rate the quality of the answer as this is how we know you received the correct answer. Thank You for using FixYa. Roger

Want to get it right the first time..

try checking the fluid level in the gearbox, rodeo dont have a dipstick so u have to undo the plug on the side of the gearbox just like a manual gearbox.if the oil is really low i suggest doing a full service on the gearbox, change the oil and filter is ideal for better results.
