Purchase a replacement tail light for your vehicle. You can find a broad selection by visiting the website listed in Resources or by going to your local automotive parts store.
Locate the tail light. You can find it on the rear of your car, located on the left and right sides. The lens color will vary depending on the type of vehicle that you have, but in most cases it will be red and will have red lights that light up when you press the breaks.
Remove the screws that are located on the corners of the plastic lens and lift off the lens. You will now see the bulb.
Place the new tail light in the place where you removed the old tail light. Make sure that you are putting the new tail light on right-side up. The screws will not line up and the tail light will not fit properly if it is upside down.
Replace each one of the screws.
brake and turn are the same filament in the bulb. Try a new bulb. if that doesn't work your going to chase a short/ground on that wire back to the switch. get a wiring diagram to help.
Check the ground for your rear lights. It's probably one single ground for all the rear lights, though I don't know that for sure. If it's not a grounding issue, it must be a loose power connection.
Open the Back and unscrew the tail light screws on the inside of the door jam. The whole tail light assembly will come out. Twist the bulb socket counter clockwise, pull the bulb out. Place new bulb in the sockett, place sockett back in tail light and turn clockwise till it stops. Place tail light back in hole, put screws back in to door jam to hold tail light in.
You may have a fried fuse. Look in your owners manual to find out which fuse it is in the fuse box diagram. If that is the problem make sure to use the same amperage fuse to replace the burned one with. I fried fuse is usually a sign that you have a short somewhere. But they can also fry for other reasons such as excess moisture somewhere. Sometimes they just burn from age and fatigue. It may solve it to just replace the fuse, but if there really is a short, the new fuse will fry too.
The
process for replacing tail light bulbs is the same in all models. If
you have a burnt-out tail light bulb, you may need to replace the
brake light, the reverse light or the turn signal. The procedure to
replace each of the bulbs is the same.
Instructions
1.
Open the Hummer's rear swing gate. This will expose the edge of the
vehicle's tail light assembly. You'll see two small Phillips head
screws that hold the tail light assembly in place. Put on your
gloves.
2.
Remove the two screws from the tail light assembly. Pull the tail
light out and inspect the back for two bulbs. The top bulb is the
brake light and turn signal. The bottom bulb is the reverse bulb.
Determine which bulb you need to replace.
3Rotate
the bulb's socket counterclockwise to disconnect it. Unplug the bulb
from its socket.
4Push
the replacement bulb into its socket firmly. Insert the socket back
into the tail light. Turn it clockwise to secure it in place.
5Place
the tail light into its cradle. Hold it with one hand and replace
the Phillips head screws with the other.
if the panel is not damaged or only slightly damaged it should just be a case of removing the damaged tail light and fitting the new one, if all electrics work I would leave the socket
