93 mirage doesnt have a choke, it is fuel injected! What exactly do you mean by hard to start? Does it take longer than normal to start, does it initially crank slower than normal? You could try cycling the key before attempting to start it! By this i mean, thrn the key to RUN, wait a couple seconds, turn key to off, turn back to run, wait a couple seconds,, turn to off, then attempt to start! See what that does!

1998 olds silhouette hard to start in cold weather

I suspect your car doesn't have a choke if it is EFI.

I'd suspect a faulty coolant temp sensor unit, which is not telling the ECU that the engine is cold.

Some EFI cars have an extra injector called a cold start injector. If fitted this could be faulty.

In both the above cases there may be an ECU trouble code you can read out. In the US Autozone will do this for you.

In the old days the classic cause of hard starting was always faulty engine timing. If your car has a timing belt and it is worn, it may have jumped a tooth or 2., but this is uncommon.

Why does my 2.2 start, then quit after it warms up? Adjusted hot & cold idle but still the same. Will a manual choke cure the problem? Can I remove the electronics on the carb? 84 Rampage.

Disassemble dashpot on automatic choke and remove and clean linkage. With engine cold adjust automatic choke so that it just touches closed on throat of carb. With engine at operating temperature, Choke plate should be straight up and down in the throat of the carb. Automatic chokes are seldom the problem that you have described Vacuum leak maybe?

Automatic choke not working

There is no choke on a 94 Camry. Might you have posted in the wrong category?

The extra petrol required for a cold start on this car is supplied by the injectors as controlled by the car's computer. If you experience hard starting and hesitant running when cold, it is most likely that you have a

- failed enginetemperature sensor
- malfunctioning fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump
- faulty cold start injector (3VZ engine only)
- carbon tracks on distributor or rotor surfaces

1982 blazer hard to start when its cold. after first start of the day fires everytime. have to hold choke open to get to start.

The automatic choke linkage is hanging up normally you have to remove the three screws holding it in place and lube the inner piston inside the choke housing. Do this with the engine cold, adjust the chock so that it closes the throttle plate with a slight pressure, when you push on the throttle the plate should close all the way, and with a slight push with the ginger it should open easy. If this does not help answer to this e-mail to get more help.

1995 Mitsubishi L300 Van 2ltr aspirated motor, Automatic choke revs extremely high on cold start, will not decelerate till engine is hot. How can I remedy this?

If it's carburetor & has automatic choke, then there is probably a screw at side of carb, by step cam that moves with choke . Back it of a little at a time until you get desired cold idle speed. Make sure you turn step cam to setting it would normally be when cold, and choke on, then turn screw out to lower rpm's. Look for a little rod from choke shaft, down to base or side of carb area, to step cam.

Automatic choke is stuck on my bmw

the 318 is fuel injected and has no automatic choke,it does have a cold start system to aid in cold starts, the most likely cause of your problem is a bad or dirty throttle position sensor.you may also need to clean the throttle body and throttle linkages or cables
