You need to pull off wheels, brakes, rotor /unit hub bearing, both axles and intermediate shaft, as well as the vac disconnec ton the front axle tube. if only the right side leaks then only then only pull the right axle and intermediate shaft and vac disco. it is a trick with a miller tool to replace the seal. the left side seal is inside the diff and the carrier has to come out to replace it. pete

Where is the most common place for oil leak

The front and rear main seals will cause a significant oil leak or even the valve covers. I pressure washed mine really well then kept a eye on the leaks and it was a front main seal not easy to replace because you have to remove all the intercoolers and radiator then u have to seat the seal perfectly or it will leak again

My transmission in my 1997 dodge cummins is leaking alot in the front by the oil pan, what could it be

Is the oil red or is it brown? If it is red meaning it is tranny fluid then the front seal must be out of your transmission. If it is brown meaning it is engine oil the rear main seal could be out of the engine.

Good Luck.

There should be a big nut in the center of the wheel hub. You will have to remove atleast one of the ball joints if it's IFS.
