The spedo starts to bounce when the cable from the tranny doesn't operate easily. Sond like now either the cable has broken and needs to be replaced, or the plastic gear in the side of the tranny has given up, in which case the gear needs to be replaced, and the cable lubricated.

Dodge had this problem and they corrected it by installing new tanks.

Never mind!.. if BOTH have stopped working, then it's the motor.. IF ONLY ONE has stopped working, it's the retaining nut!

my 2002 elantra gls sedan started blowing hot air and overheating and it turned out when i took it to the hyundai dealer it was my thermostat they replaced it and i was good to go.it happened at about 40,000 miles hope it works out for you
