No brakes, relaced rear brake shoes. abs, and brake lights still
Brakes went out, abs light as well as brake light came on. replaced rear brake shoes, and bled brake lines. still abs and brake lights come on and go from brake pressure to none.
before all this repair work put into my van I only thought I needed brake pads. Did we do something wrong ourselves or could it really be the abs modular? Can we replace it our selves easily or am I going to have to pay the 1450. to get it done?before all this repair work put into my van I only thought I needed brake pads. how much brake fluid did you remove or put brake shoes on wrong reason abs light on.check brake fluid.when replace front brakes you have make sure mastercylinder reservoir corver on then pump brake pedal seat brake shoes against rotor then check brake fluid level.
If the brake fluid is low or if you have low pressure, it will cause both of these lights to come on. This truck has rear drum brakes if I am not mistaken??? you also might want to adjust up the rear brakes some more. The rear brake shoes being out of adjustment can also cause this. Something else you might want to check is the rear speed sensor on the rear differential.
Take it to Auto Zone or other parts store and have them run a free diagnostics scan. Then reply with the code. If no codes are present, you can start checking the front abs sensors. I dont believe there are rear sensors on these models.
removhe the rear drums and inspect the placement of the shoes, make sure the leading and trailing shoes are in their proper place and all the springs are in the proper position, and the shoes are achored, loosen the parking brake and adjust the shoes to the drums, my guess is the parking brake is causing a hang up in the rear,
There's speed sensors at each wheel. You may have got some contamination in front of one of them... sounds like the abs is trying to compensate for un equal speed at each wheel... and something may be blocking a proper read at one of the wheels...
when brake light is constantly on it normally means the rear brake light dont work (bulb blown) ABS normally means sensors pushed too far or teeth on abs cv axle could be damaged or bent. check that first.
the ABS antilock braking system will if a fault occures? light up indicator light on dash but this means ABS is none operational thereby you will still be able to stop as if car not fitted with system i am conserned at your comment having to pump brake pedal? why? too much travel on pedal? but will pump up harder?? when you replaced front brakes? were the pads and discs replaced? did you bleed the brakes hydraulc system after ? from what you've said i am sure the ABS is working but a sensor /s is sensing premature brake lock up on either front or rear? so if you are certain front brakes ok? thencheck rears? if rear brakes are drums ? remove and inspect for wear or possible contamination ie cyl leaking fluid on shoes would cause brakes to adhese to drum on application also grabbing ? hope this helps some?
