SOURCE: Battery wont keep charge

It seems as though the battery is feeding something that is turned on. Turn everything off in the car with the battery fully charged. Fold down the rear seat and see if the boot light is on. The problem can be found by trail and error. If you know a mate who can use a multimeter then he could do a check on the battery. If the battery is loosing its voltage, take out one fuse at a time to isolate which curcuit is drawing the power.

SOURCE: 2006 Chevy Silverado alternator intermittent charging

Perfectly normal.
Starting with the 2005 model year, light duty full size pickups and utilities are equipped with a new Regulated Voltage Control (RVC) system. This system reduces the targeted output of the generator to 12.6-13.1 volts when in "Fuel Economy Mode" to improve fuel economy. The generator may exit "Fuel Economy Mode" if additional voltage is required. This will cause the voltmeter to fluctuate between 12 and 14 volts as opposed to non-regulated systems that usually maintain a more consistent reading of 14 volts. This fluctuation with the RVC system is normal system operation and NO repairs should be attempted.

you need to check the alternator charge rate as this is the sort of problems associated with a low charge rate , unfourtunately you will need the engine running to do this so get a voltmeter ready for when you jump start the engine and read across battery terminals if reads below 13 volts the alternator needs replacing ,check that the drive belt is tensioned correctly as this would make alternator give low charge, also will need the OBD codes reading after all this going on , the engine doesnt need to be running for this just ignition on ,will give codes for sensor/switch which might be out because of the starting/running problems

2007 Chevy Aveo Sedan alternator issue? Could it be something like a fuse? Battery is new.

If the alternator is good and the battery is not being charged, yes there is a fuse or fuseable link between the alternator and battery.
If the problem comes and goes, like you can drive the car for several days then it acts up, I would look for a wiring problem.

IT COULD BE A BAD ALTERNATOR. JUMP START THE CAR, REMOVE THE JUMPER CABLES, PUT A VOLTMETER ON THE BATTERY. MOTOR RUNNING, VOLTAGE SHOULD READ 13.90 TO14.80. IF IT READS 13.00 OR LESS OR THE VOLTAGE STARTS DROPPING, THE ALTERNATOR IS NOT CHARGING. BEFORE BUYING AN ALTERNATOR, GET A GOOD FUSE TESTER, CHECK EVERY FUSE,, FUSEBOX UNDER THE HOOD & THE FUSEBOX INSIDE THE VEHICLE. IF ALL FUSES CHECK GOOD & BATTERY VOLTAGE IS LOW WITH MOTOR RUNNING, THE ALTERNATOR MUST BE BAD.

If you havent replaced the battery I would start there. If the battery has a dead cell in it then it will effectively remove the charge that your alternator is putting out causing your vehicle to stop running because it has no power. I would jump start the car without the battery hook up and remove the cables and see if it runs that way. If it does you have a bad battery.

2001 Grand am Se battery light keeps coming on - replaced battery yesterday and had alternator checked - was told amp on alternator was fine?

Who told you the alternator is O.K.? How much voltage is it producing? Take a volt meter , start car & make sure the alternator is charging properly. Attach meter to the posts & see what it reads. All readings over 13.2 to 14.5 O.k. less means new alternator. Also make sure battery cable connections are clean & tight.

Check the function of the alternator. Charge the battery with a battery charger or jump start the engine. While the engine is running use a voltmeter to check the voltage at the battery posts. Red to + and black to -. You should have between 13.5 − 16 volts. If you do not the alternator is bad or the drive belt is loose. If the alternator checks ok then something is on that is drawing power from the battery and running it down. Check under hood, trunk, glove box, and interior lights. Can also be a brake light switch causing the brake lights to stay on. In rare cases it can also be a stuck relay such as a power window relay. From you description I think you will find the alternator is ok and your problem is something is on and running the battery down.
