After replacing battery, the stater motor doesn't start

Flat Battery, Jump started to get me home. Away for two weeks then fully charged battery. All Fuses checked correct in both Fuse Panels. Lights, AC, Central Locking and Indications working but when Key put to position 3 nothing occurs. There is a Transmission Malfunction warning but it is a Manuel Gear Box, which is followed by Engine Malfunction. Tried re-syncing Key's.

Hi Malcolm - have you checked the clutch safety switch that prevents you from cranking the engine in gear ?

The starter motor should be replaced. The selenoid in the starters frequently go without warning and then the starter will do nothing until you replace it (remember to disconnect the battery negative cable first). Also if your car is financed and if you are behind one or two payments they may have remotely disabled the car and you will have to call them and work something out to get the car "released" so it will start.

SOURCE: car will not jump start

Check battery voltage. If volts are very low, put on charger. In many cases, you can't jump through a really dead battery... not enough voltage gets through to computer etc to make systems operate.
Battery may be used up... if it will not take a charge, replace it and check charging system before driving. PS: use a charger to charge battery. If it is very low, you candamage charging system in other vehicle. Also,,, You cleaned terminals already RIGHT???

SOURCE: imobiliser problem

If im not mistaken, your car should have an alarm reset/override.Below the steering column,on the dash should be a slot where you put your remote transmitter to deactivate the alarm. If that works, you then need to have your remote checked and coded by a vw dealer.Good luck.

SOURCE: Renault Twingo with a key

yes i know what these cars are like ,a right pain in the you know where and the only solution is to calkl a truck and have it taken to the dealer ,its a europeon vehicle and uses encrypted software ,Now on earlier models you still get a spark and the immobilisor only shuts of the fuel pump so if you try running a hot wire direct to the fuel pump it should start anyway ,check for polarity on the sender unit where the fuel pump is ,access can be gained from under teh back seat on this vehicle ,if you do have to have it re-programmed then once its running with teh key cut the thrid wire on the immobilisor reader in the drivers side footwell with teh engine running and then it thinks it still has the key in the ignition .I HATE RENAULTS

2004 Saab 93. My battery went flat on my Saab whilst away for 6 weeks. On trying to jump start it lights come on dashboard but will not turn over. Any ideas how to fix this please.

You need to reset the immobilizer and alarm. You may need an auto-locksmith or auto electrician. First though, make sure the battery is fully charged and has at least 12.4 volts.

How do you tell if it needs charged or not?

Hi Kelly, A fully charged battery is 12.4 to 12.6. and when the motors running it's 14.3 to 14.6... Three reasons your battery is flat (isn't charging), You have a faulty battery, A power drain or you have a faulty alternator... Clean your battery terminals and If you don't have a multimeter then Try jump starting your flat battery and driving your car for at least ten minutes then turned the motor off and try starting it WITHOUT jump start, If the battery's still flat then it's the battery, If your car starts straight away but won't start the next day then you have a power drain... If you jump start your flat battery and go for a ten minute drive but during that drive the motor dies without turning off the key then it's the alternator....
A mechanic or an auto electrician can usually test Free of charge if you can get it there....CHEERS..

Battery charged but wont start

Have battery load tested if it checks good remove starter and have it tested to see how many amps it is pulling I think you will find one or both of these to be your problem. Make sure cable going to battery and stater and negative cable have good clean connections and cables are not corroded. If this helps please give me good feed back.

if your seeing 12 volts after the charge, it doesn't mean the battery is good,, a single cell thats bad in a battery will give you fits and produce the problems you listed,, remove the battery , and have it LOAD tested, that way you will get a true correct reading, a battery can show `12 volts, but a bad cell will not let it charge to the correct amps it needs to start the vehicle. once you've done that , and your sure you have a good battery ,, start the vehicle,, ( make sure that when you replaced the battery , that all the connections are clean and tight) with a meter, place one lead on each battery terminal, you should get a reading between 13.5 and 14.5 volts, if you do , then your alternator is doing its job, if not,, replace the alternator, ( your vehicle doesn't have a generator)

Running so few miles has accelerated the aging of the battery - the battery never had a chance to fully recharge in such small trips -  so now you have to replace it a year sooner than usual.
Just replace it.

Hi there,

Check the earth strap from the starter motor to the neg battery. Clean up the ends witha wire brush and refit. Try the ignition again. Make sure the other wires going to the starter motor are in good condition.

Stater up (sic) and away you go.

Vote for me when this works, thanks.
