The RX 330 uses a timing belt. It will be on the outside end of the engine furthest from the gearbox. It will be hidden behind a plastic bolt on cover used to protect fingers from fast moving parts.
The cars with an internal timing setup use a timing 'chain' which doesn't need changing anywhere near as often.
repairpal.com/estimator/timing-belt-replacement-cost How much does it cost to replace a timing belt? Make sure it's a fair price. Get an estimate for parts and labor for your car in your area.
Between $250 & $450
Hi, Toyota has been recommending 60,000-mile timing belt replacement intervals for its 4Runner vehicles. And it costs around $600 for parts and labour....
Timing belt on 4 cylinder Renaults should be changed every 50-60000 Km. Consequence of not doing so is having the belt break, and damaging valves and valve lifters (extremely costly) . Replacing the belt is time consuming, and labor intensive. So while the belt is out, its is a good investment to replace pulley, belt tensioner/ roller bearing and water pump belt, which is nearby and has to be taken out anyway, for timing belt replacement. Meganes dont have fan belts, they use electric motors for this duty.
Technically, nothing else needs to be changed when replacing a timing belt, however it is recommended or suggested to replace the timing belt tensioner and water pump while doing the belt. These items are only accessable when doing a timing belt. The cost should be under $100.00
Normally my Honda Dealership replaces the Timing Belt, Water Pump, Valve Cover Gasket, Crank and Cam Seals all in one shot. Service life is about the same for all of them and the Honda Tech is right there anyway to do the Timing Belt, which saves the customer the Labor Cost of coming back later to do it. Prevents us from getting the customer back a couple of months later mad that they have to pay almost the same amount of labor again for another part to be replaced.
Normally they will also replaces the exterior belts if they have not already been replaced.
Go to www.repairpal.org for what the local cost are to be expected in your area, just keep in mind that it only lists the timing belt by it’s self there.
I recommend 60-90K Cost depends on the dealerships labor but usually when your doing a timing belt, radiator hoses and fan belts are removed and should be replaced while your in there. Its about 3hrs, more if other things need to be replaced while in there. So you looking at $300+ for labor only
Timing belt replacement should be about 30 dollars for the belt and 2-3 hours of shop time at whatever shop rate is in your location. Is your car still running? if it is, you definately want to have this done, if the belt breaks, valves in the cylinder head will be bent
