Started run for 10 min got in my car went and got gas for the ranger put it in started run for about 10 more min went down the road lil way and as I was turning around it stalled out and won't start back and I put new plug wires on it today still won't start could this just be bad plugs or could it be a fuel filter clogged and the oil filler cap smells like gas??

SOURCE: car turns over, but won't start

Too many choice.
3 main areas are fuel, spark, air.
Try a shot of ether, if it fires at all, it is a fuel problem.
Then we can get into more detail.

Why does the engine stall when I remove then replace the oil filler cap

Normal, maybe. Since they started putting the engine case vacuum in the air filter plenum. Yes it happens. Many different cars today will shut down soon if the oil cap is not on. It has to do with the Mass air flow sensor.

Why on my1997tahoe when you remove the oil filler cap truck will stall and lots of suction

Well -doing that sort of takes out the PCV System
doesn't it

Unmetered air comes in the oil fill hole & gets drawn into
the intake & leans out the fuel mix

You also got PCV system issues with high vacuum

Won't start but did and stalled out won't start at all now and oil filler cap smells like gas

If the oil cap smells like gas, one of the injectors may be flooding the cylinder and the crankcase. That would not be a filter problem.
Check the spark plugs to see if they are wet.

One of your intake manifold gaskets went bad and it is sucking in air where it should'nt be. This problem is very common on this motor. I'm 100% sure that is what it is. But no ofense if you can't figure out how to get your radiator cap off , then this job is probably a little much for you.

Engine stalling out when hot

I would have the control module checked. It is mounted to the back of the distributor. You can take it by any autozone to be tested. This component heats up and then starts to break down inside,, when it cools back off then you are able to start back up until it goes completely out.
