Astra engine Hi, My car is Opel Astra G (seadan) 2000 edition (2001 year). The problem is with working speed of an engine, engine revs too high when in neutral gear, when i want to warm the engine it doesn't go between 0 and 1 rpm (as before;usual), before it used to go to the middle of 0 and 1, this is more noticeable when I want to shift the gear from 5 or 4 (4 to 3 and so on, when on neutral) to neutral and in those few seconds which i decide to change the gear to suitable gear, the engine in neutral works with very high speed, over 4!!! FYI: The rmp is shown in Tachometer is between 0 to 7. I will be very grateful if anybody can help me. Many many thanks

First thing to do,try to pump your clutch before you shift into 1st gear then if you feel makes better, most probably you have problem with your hydraulic clutch system, check the clutch line if there is an evidence of fluid leaking or it could be internal leak.

Second thing to do, check your transmission oil, may be it' s too old or you use a thick oil thats why when cold its hard to shift then when the engine rich the normal temperature(warm) the oil become thin and the shifting will smooth. Remember the very old oil become thicken and the purity is gone and can cause of hard shifting. in this regards i suggest you to change the transmission oil and check the used oil if there is small peace of metals, then you are in big trouble,

sounds like the iac might be giving problems, check ur idle air control valve on the side of you throttle body if its working right, replace if not.

I would start with a transmission fliud and filter service.

I would then have the trasnmission checked out by a transmission shop. The transmission most of the time has the direct drum band is starting to go. The shops can rebuild it no problem, This is a very common failure wiith the trasnmission.

Could be various things. So the best is to see a Opel dealer and read out the fault codes from the engine with Tec II.
