I have a 1996 volvo 850 without the car remote. all of a sudden when i tried to insert my key to open the door only a short portion of the key would go in. the paperer side key inserts all the way but doesn't allow me to open the door because my car is locked. what should i do?

Happened to me after first purchasing my 850 - check the fuse for the CLS, as mine (for some reason) was too narrow, and was jostling about. Once I changed it out for a new fuse, no problems at all (I performed this fix a year ago, and no problems since).

you either have a faulty central locking motor or the wiring harness may be damaged.
Remove the door panel and check if you have a live feed to the central locking motor when you use the fob to lock or unlock. If you have power, then it will most likely be the motor that is at fault.
