Tried to crank van all she will do is back fire sometimes and spin over .changed fuel filter getting fuel and firing.tried starting fluid no go .engine did build up a lot of compression on the radiator just from spinning to motor trying to crank it.what might be my issue?
HI, Sorry you are having problems but it sounds like you have either a blown head gasket or your timing belt has skipped some theeth. Did you notice water in the oil or oil in the water? was the van running well last time you used it? checking the timing belt and doing a compression test will be helpful, good luck
Well, those are classic symptoms of bad engine timing, so I'd have that checked. Maybe your timing belt has jumped a tooth.
Be careful with that starter fluid, you could blow yourself up.
The engine has two spark plugs per cylinder. If one plug is faulty the cylinders won't have a spark. The compression test tells you nothing either.
still dont know what your talking about if you dont know dont answer and also this is an 8 yr old answered question
so true but is was not told by OP it was SOLVED, this forum has no solved button and decades of unsolved posts.
OP has no engine told , no year, and backfire smacks of timing wrong.
failing to tell year and engine, is always going to fail, hard, and no country told. but is USA this case
last one August 21, 2021 and then sold as
the Chrysler division revived the Grand Caravan for its namesake division, using it for a Canadian-market version of the Chrysler Pacifica (an identical vehicle was marketed as the Chrysler Voyager in the United States).[3]
No Engine told makes 99% of all answers dead wrong. even mine. (and I can fix them all)
jyothio is talking about wasted spark engine, COIL packs if one spark connection open circuits
you lost to spark plugs.
on engines say v8 , it may have coil packs not 4, and all 8 fire independently.
so I get what you are saying but the OP never once told what engine he has or year.
Do you think she still has this vehicle Jyothi?

This reply concerns all people posting automotive questions. It is always helpful...to state the year /make/model/and engine of your vehicle. The mileage is also extremely important when trying to help a person with their car problem.
Also define items like...it was working fine...last time I drove it...or running rough, A little history on a vehicle goes a long way when try to do a prognosis of your problem. Good Luck
Compression in the radiator is a sign of a blown head gasket, a head gasket needs to be inorder

if the pump is not working it may be the fuel shut off, look in owners manual for location.

What about the fuel filter????? Have you changed it out??? If you can spary something like a started fluid, that means it is a fuel problem. My last check, it has to be above 50-psi on the fuel pressure to make it run right. I had 35psi, but whould not get over 30mph or down hill maybe 45mph. Check both filter & pressure, but check pressure with a New fule filter!!!!
SOURCE: changed distributor cap and now van wont start
I would pull the plugs and let the gas into the cylinders to dry out , you may have a hydrolock engine after putting so much gas into it , recheck the firing order to be sure is OK ususlly when you see a carb backfiring and smoking the firing order is not right

WHAT I WOULD DO IS TEST THE FUEL PRESSURE SOME TIMES THE PUMP WILL PUMP ENOUGH FUEL TO GET TO THE TBI BUT NOT ENOUGH TO FIRE THE TRUCK. IF FUEL PRESSURE IS GOOD REMOVE THE DISTBURTOR CAP AND INSPECT THE CAP AND ROTOR, CHECK FOR CORROTION N EITHER ONE SOME TIMES IS BUILDS UP AND STOPS THE SPARK. GIVE THAT A TRY GOOD LUCK HOPE THIS HELPS.
