Ignition modules are pretty common on the 4.3 liters. Some things I would check are spark at the coil, power to the coil, pulse to the coil, and injector pulse. If you have injector pulse but no pulse at the coil chances are the module is the issue.

SOURCE: gmc safari van cranks over, but will not fire up

I had the same problem with my 2000 GMC Safari two years ago....drove me CRAZY!

Sometimes it would start right up...other times it just would crank and not start.

It turned out to be a cracked coil....I found it by using a spray bottle with water in it, and "misting" the engine, at night....with the engine running. (On a night when it DID start!)

It took a while, but finally the hairline crack let in some water and the electrical short showed by a spark coming out of the coil.

I replaced the coil with a new one, and it has never "not started" since.

Evidently the coil cover gets brittle and develops small, hairline cracks due to heat from the engine.

Oh...by the way....I tested the coil it showed that it was fine!....but it took the "misting" at night...in the dark...to find the spark "leaking" out.

SOURCE: 99 GMC Sierra Pickup: Crank but no start. starts

The theft light issue is a good observation. Have you replaced the key tumbler or an ignition component lately? Has there been a lightning storm close very recently?

What the flashing security light is indicating is an attempt to relearn the key you are using.
Turn the key to run position, allow light to flash for 10 minutes, when light stops flashing turn ignition to OFF position for 5 seconds, turn ignition to run position and start over. Do this for 3 consecutive cycles, the the theft system will relearn the key cylinder code and store it once again.
Try that first before you go any further.
Let me know what you find.
Regards,

1996 gmc sierra 5.0l body control module? Have a crank no start condition.

You'll first need to determine whether it's a fuel delivery or ignition problem. The quick way is to remove the air intake at the throttle body and spray a 2 second burst of starter fluid directly into the throttle body and promptly start.

If it fires and runs for a few seconds then it's a no fuel issue. If no fire, then more likely it's a no spark, so pull a plug wire and check for spark.

Van 2006 chevy express turns over wont fire even with starting fluid

If it will not hit with spraying starting fluid, that indicates that you have a no fire condition. Start at the spark plugs and work your way in from there. Wires, coil, crank trigger, fuse.

Cranks, no start on 97 GMC van with 350 Vortec. Fired up with starter fluid

if it starts with starter fluid then its a fuel problem. check the fuel pressure and volume with a gage. these require at least 56lbs pressure to open the injectors and if the pressure is at 52lbs the they will not open. these use the pressure to open the poppet injectors and have a problem with the spider lines cracking and leaking fuel inside the intake. this is probably why it won`t start on its own.

92 GMC sonoma 2.5L 4cylinder - replaced plugs, wires, fuel filter on the rail, checked fuel pump plenty of fuel. Wants to crank but doesnt seem like its getting fuel. used starting fluid still would fire off....

How about no spark or did you screw up the firing order when you replaced the plug wires? It is easy to do.Typically there are 2 things to get an engine to fire that's fuel and spark. other things will make it run bad but not even a short rumble when you use starting fluid, there is no ignition. Get a spark test tool from the auto parts store. Check the firing order and be sure your wires are in the correct order.

200 GMC Jimmy was hesitating while driving and then completely stopped running. would not restart.

if it is still cranking but not firing the first thing to check is fuel delivery. get a can of starting fluid from parts store and open the air cleaner box. spray fluid into half leading to the motor while someone tries to start the engine. if it fires you may have a bad fuel pump. good luck

Jeep cherokee cranks but no start

this is a fuel problem, fuel pump is bad, or fuel filter is clogged up. check to see if fuel pump is working. check fuses and relays if it does not work. to rule out a bad fuse or relay.
