it would not hurt to check rear tire wear due to misalignment
cupped tires will cause a faulty bearing type noise or humming.

I just changed out a tailight on my 2000 Nissan Xterra, so I assume it may be similar. You have to pop the plastic strip which runs across the back. There are pop rivits in it.

SOURCE: 2002 Nissan Xterra drivers power window wont roll down

Quite possibly yes...I would first check any relays and/or fuses just in case.  A few dollars for a fuse or relay is much cheeper than say $100.00 and a few hours of labor.
You can purchase just the window motors from any major auto parts stores.  You can also purchase the window motor with the regulator.  The regulator is kind of like a rope and pulley system to lift the window up and down and the motor is attached to this assembly.  It is a little more expensive but I would change both.  I always change both just in case the regulator is bad and it isn't the motor.  You will have to remove the plastic interior of the door in order to change either the motor or the motor/regulator assembly.

Any questions, feel free to ask!

I have a 2001 nissan xterra - will not engage in reverse gear - any solutions?

Does it seem to bog down when in reverse as you accelerate? If so the trans maybe stuck in forward gear (mechanical problem) resulting in both forward & rev being applied.

when you say you checked the rear end for problems and things appeared good did you check the rear end internally to see if there is a broken gear tooth or metal in the differential oil.i`ve one were this was the problem(a broken gear) that would get caught and stop the forward motion or make it hard to turn.i`ve also had it were the rear brakes were causing a forward motion problem like your having.the shoes were rotating so far when the drum was turning then apply and lock up until it was put in reverse.just some things to check out.if things were working good with the rear drive shaft removed and the problem starts with it in then the problem is in the back end some where as mentioned above.

Checked Cables how?

Looking & Touching isn't doing anything

You have to do a voltage drop test or remove
& clean the ends. I would do both

Remove the starter & have it tested at parts store,
assuming you don't know how to do a voltage or
current test while cranking.

Service engine soon indicator on and a buzzing/whining noise.

i recommend that you take it into auto-zone or a car shop asap. from what you have described the ticking as, it sounds like a bottom knock. as for the whine i don't know.

Take it to a reputable independent repair shop that isn't a chain...that employees Master L-1 Technicians. Chain stores can barely change oil, let alone diagnose complicated issues.
