There is greece coming out of my Drives side transaxle with metal shavings, it is a 2006 Kia sorento 4x4. The rubber peice looks like there is a hole in it with smoke coming out it was shooting sparks down the road and pulling left. The brakes were getting soft and locking up help please? I recently replaced the wheel bearing in it three years ago and put aprox 25k miles.

hi there, there are two ways to check your bearings, 1, is to jack up the vehicle so the wheel is free of the ground and to check for any play or roughness in the bearing by spinning the wheel, if the bearing is worn then you will hear a droning noise, 2 is to drive along a quiet road, at a speed where you can hear the noise, gently turn the steering from left to right so the vehile load is being shifted from one side to the other, if you have a wheel bearing fault the noise's pitch will alter,hope this helps

try turning the steering wheel and the key at the same time its a locking ignition and sometimes if you turn the wheel while you turn the key it will unlock the column try turning the wheel both ways doing this

Be careful there.. If you remove the Throttle Position Sensor TPS or the throttle Cable, the engine light will come on because there is a certain setting that needs to be done to ensure accurate emission control.

The rear drums are held on by a spindle nut. You first must remove the dust cap then unstake the nut and remove it. Behind that is a retaining washer and the outer bearing. The bearings can become a little stuck in which case a hammer can usually persuade them to loosen up.

Apparently this is a recall matter and will be fixed at no charge. KIA Consumer Assistance Center 1-800-333-4542. Recall notices were to go out in May/June 2009.
