Defrost not working

The defrost doesn't seem to be working. I can hear it running, but the fog does not go away. Also The lights on my temperature control panel(3 knobs) are no longer working. Wouldn't start and had to jump it a few days before I noticed this. Any idea how to fix or if it's the battery?

Hello, and welcome to fixya! The reason that you are able to hear the climate control system and not feel the air coming out of the defroster, is that the damper (this controls where the air is directed when you change the vent selection on the climate controls) is not operating as it should. The damper is controlled by vacuum pressure, and the usual culprit is that the vacuum hose running to the damper is either loose, or defective(usually dry rotted) which will create a vacuum loss. Without the vacuum pressure to operate the damper, you will lose some, but not all functionality of the vent selection. I recommend that you check the vacuum line(s) that run to the damper, making sure that the vacuum hose is connected, and free of defects, like cracks, holes, and that the connections are not loose as hoses can and will lose their elasticity, which will create a vacuum loss. If that is not the issue, I recommend that you remove the climate control vent selector and make sure that all of the connections to the control panel are secure and free of defect. If that is not the issue, you may have a faulty damper (which is rarely the case), and that will need to be replaced. As far as the climate control lights not working, that could be a simple as a blown fuse, faulty bulbs, or even as simple as a poor connection to the bulbs, or to the control selector. I highly recommend that you disconnect and reconnect all of the connections to the unit. When you check the fuse panel, remove the fuse(s) & check for faults and make sure that the connection the fuse is making in the fuse panel is making a solid connection. I hope that you have found this information useful, are able to resolve the issues you are experiencing.

1998 Nissan sentra ac bypass

Assuming that it is working in frigid conditions, sometimes The
Ac works with the defroster to remove moisture and the fog on the inside windshield. So, turn the defroster of unless you need it when the windshield fogs. You may be able to keep the window clear by opening the outside air vent and increasing the heater temperature.

I have an issue with my windows fogging up when I use heat to defrost them.

This is normal if your A/C doesn't work. When set on defrost the A/C kicks on and off to keep the fog from appearing. the fog goes away once the heat inside reaches a certain temperature. Unless the drain is clogged and the plenum is holding water. Do you have ice on the inside? clean the drain. It's on the passenger side, near the bottom of the firewall. A rubber tube coming out, that goes to nothing.

If it was me, the first thing I'd do is go check my fluid level in my radiator. I'd add fresh anti-freeze, if I hadn't done so in a year or more. Your defrosters won't work properly if you are too low on fluids in your radiator, OR your thermostat is malfunctioning. Replacing your thermostat might be a good job for a mechanic. Good luck.

There are 2 Plugs that go into the REAR Defrost. If one of them is off, then it will not work. If you broke the Electrical Track, then it needs to be repaired... They sell kits to do this at your local Automotive Repair Stores... Time consuming but easy to do.

Windows fog on inside while driving in cold weather, requiring me to run the defroster on high to keep them clear. The button that switches the cabin air intake from "outside air " to "recirculate inside...

Yes. Unless you get fresh air you will fog up your windows. Your breath or rain on your clothes or snow on your boots will all cause the humidity to increase and this moisture will deposit on the non insulated glass. Kind,of like a glass of ice tea on a warm day you will get a condensation on the glass. The temperature difference is the cause. Try to run your A/C with the temp set to hot. This will act as a dehumidifier.
also check your pollen filter make sure it's not clogged.

Front fog lights!

The fog light switch is located to the right of the rear wiper switch. Also the fog lights will not operate when the high beams are on. If the rear fog is the defrost switch, you are in the right area.If the switch is not there, they could have been dealer installed and are wired to come on when the low beams are on. Hope this helps,Good luck
