SOURCE: loss of power steering

If memory serves me correctly... the 05 deville is equipped with "Magnasteer" the electical connector at the rack and pinion is not a pressure sensor unless its on the line itself. The system operates by inducing voltage to magnets in the rack to make turning easier at lw speeds while adding resistance at higher speeds for added control and less drift. Check for any codes on your climate control by pushing "off and warmer" at the same time with the engine off, key on. Google the codes and see if any relate to the steering system and repost! I hope that helps!

SOURCE: brought my audi a4 in to have the timing belt and

they may have loosened the power steering pump to take off the belt and not put it back right. They may have overtightened the belt which has worn the bearings out on the steering pump and made it start leaking from the bearings...

SOURCE: Looking for rack & pinion cost of replacement on

A good shop can replace the Rack & Pinion for $400 to $500 and should include the required front-end alignment. Are you sure it's not one of the hoses.

What is cause of power steering noise from ford galaxy

Check your fluid level first. If the fluid is low it will cause the power steering pump to make noise. Moore noticeable when in parking lots and driving in the city where you are making a lot of turns. Look for leaks. If you fill the power steering resivor to the proper level and the fluid leaks and you can not see the leak it may be your steering rack. The fluid leaks into the boots and sometimes goes un -detected. You can poke a small hole in the bottom of the boots and see if fluid leaks out. If so the steering rack is leaking and should be replaced

1992 silverado 1500. The power steering is intermittent, sometimes it works well for 3-4 days and then gets tight at low RPM. If I put in the clutch and rev the engine during a turn it starts to work.

If the belt and fluid levels are correct there is a good chance it may be a bigger problem. The power steering pump may be the fault. At lower speeds a worn pump isn't turning fast enough to push enough fluid. When you REV the engine your speeding up the pump pushing more fluid. Get the pump checked. If that's ok your possibly looking at a problem with the rack itself. ($$$ Ouch!).

Power steering pump replaced, start to work ok, after 10 milles driving, steering wheel is hard, like pump is not working, under hood everything look ok.

YOU HAVE AIR IN THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM.YOU NEED TO BLEED POWER STEERING PUMP FIRST BEFORE DRIVING VECHICLE.CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL ADD MORE POWER STEERING UNTIL REACH FULL COLD MARK..RAISE VECHICLE FRONT WHEELS OFF THE GROUND.START ENGINE LET IT IDLE WHILE TURNING STEERING WHEEL LEFT TO RIGHT NON STOP DONT LOCK OR STOP STEERING WHEEL KEEP TURNING IT SEVERAL TIMES CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID IF LOW ADD UNTIL YOU GET COLD MARK ON DIP STICK DONT OVER FILL POWER STEERING PUMP BLOW A SEAL.IF POWER STEERING FLUID LOOK TAN COLOR SYSTEM FULL OF AIR.TURN OFF IGNITION LET CAR SET FOR A WHILE CHECK FLUID LEVEL.IF STEERING WHEEL FEEL STIFF HARD TURNING DONT DRIVE CAR UNTIL YOU HAVE NORMAL STEERING.IF STILL HAVE AIR IN SYSTEM BLEED SYSTEM UNTIL AIR IS OUT.

FORD GALAXY 1999 2.3 NO POWER STREEING AFTER REPLACING BELT TENSIONER ONLY. .. FLUID LEVEL OK BELT FITTED CORRECTLY I CAN SEE THE PUMP SPINNING

you make have air in your power steering lines. full steer right and then full steer left this will bleed off the air in the lines.
If this doesnt work it could be a power steering pump failure

I have a 2003 chevy blazerthat has power steering problem no leak

There is a "pressure regulator" located in the pump just behind the high pressure line that directs high pressure fluid to the steering rack when you turn the steering wheel. It sounds like the regulator valve is sticking and not sending the high pressure fluid to the steering rack when you turn the wheel.
You can remove the pump and clean the valve, reinstall the pump and flush the steering system with fresh fluid or replace the pump and flush the system with new fluid.
Good luck.

The steering becomes hard then easy then hard then easy. It is present when turning left and right.

I assume you've checked belt condition, belt tension, as well as fluid level?

A whirring sound, maybe power steering pump

HI. You power steering fluid level may be low at this point, a quick inspection of the fluid level, will be in order, if possible. Once you have verified that the fluid level is sufficient, move on to the actual power steering belt and unit. Make sure the belt is tight, and rotating the pulley. If the fluid level is low, be sure to fill to specifications.

Now, If the pulley and belt are rotating without a wobble, and the fluid level is sufficient, this will lead to a failed pump. The pump should be replaced in this case. Make sure you exhaust all inspections points mentioned before replacing the pump.

CHECK LIST

  1. Check the power steering pump hoses for leaks
  2. Check the power steering pump pulley for lose fit or wobble during rotation,
  3. Check the power steering reservoir for proper level(add if needed)
  4. Check the power steering drive belt for the proper tension.
