Forgot to disconnect battery when working on alternator for my 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. When tightening hot lead to alternator, I shorted it out when my tool touched another metal part; Lots of arching and burning took place. Reduced engine power light has come on and vehicle won't go above 30 mph. Battery light came on. Have since changed alternator and battery and problem continues to persist. Any ideas?

try changing the air filter ,i had a problem ,at ilde in drive my trailblazer would stall, changed the air filter now it's not stalling and got my power back ,there is a secondary air pump that i have to change ,
not sure were it is ? still not running perfect but it's running better .and my service light is on too.
i got it put on scope ,it's the pump .
not sure if this helps ,but i'm start to run in to problems too,i have a 2004 trailblazer.
i like to do fix things myself ,i hope i can.it's the cost if you know what i mean.

If possible take the vehicle to autozone or advanced if one is available in your area to run an electrical system test. They can do this at no charge to you just to make sure the alt is charging. If it is charging and the gauge is still reading incorrectly the pigtail plug on the alternator may have corrosion or a broken wire. This plug is what controls the guage.

Hello! There are several possibilities...A Technical Service Bulletin written on July/08 shows the existence of the problem...Yes, they know about it and nothing more...It is TSB# 02-06-03-008D...
The meter in the dash is telling you "complete discharge", correct? When the idle drops are there any other signs...ie...Lights dim for instance...Or is the only indication of a problem the meter?...Lets eliminate the meter itself...There is a blocking diode installed in the instrument cluster that may be defective and actually the discharge is a lie...Using a voltmeter, Read the battery voltage with the engine off...Record reading...Start the engine and at idle take another reading...Voltage should be 1,8 to 2 volts higher...Increase RPM'S...Does the voltage rise or remain the same...Send readings...
The ground strap from the -battery terminal to the engine block/chassis may be corroded or loose causing a voltage drop at low RPM'S...Set scale of meter to X1 ohms...Engine off...Place one probe on the CENTER of the - battery terminal the other on the alternator mounting bracket...Must be zero ohms...Dead short...Send readings...
The Regulated Voltage Control Module is defective and needs to be replaced...Regulated voltage control is
new for the Vortec 4.2L and Vortec 5.3L engines. It enhances fuel
economy by reducing the load on the engine generated by the alternator...It is located on the center tunnel under the rear seat...Check the connector to see if any pins are bent and that it is properly seated...

Have you preformed a load test on your charging system.
youll need a volt meter to preform the test
1.Sart the engine.
2. Hook your volt meter to your batt Take your reading should be about 13.5v
3. turn on your heater headlights and any other electrical systems in your car.
4. Take a new reading. volts should not drop.
If you have a voltage drop you alternator is failing. and you need to replace it.
Why did you change the batt for?
Hope this helps FixYa.
