Chugs and sputters when taking off

My 95 toyota celica gt 2.2L has recently been sputtering every now and then. just a few days ago it sputtered and chugged when you take off. it would go away when you get up to about 25mph in high rpm. we came to a stop light and went to take off and it lost all power just chugging bad till it came to rest on the side of the road after crawling to a sad stop. i went to start it up again and it turned over and chugged a little bit but would not fire. what could it be??

I had a problem like this on my 95 gt 2,2 and it was the distributor cap and rotor. I changed fuel filter, fuel lines, etc. thinking it was fuel related, nope, cap and rotor and 10 minutes of labor and shes perfect.

2.4L '95 Toyota Tacoma sputters out when trying to get going.

when did it last run good, last week, last year or nobody knows/
that is good one, odd for sure that. NO scan tools work 1995 ,
2.4L stick shift. M/T
well the engine has no idea at all what gear you are in.
so my guess is, yes engine is overloading, (reverse is better )
means engine power is super super weak.
because REV has a higher numerical RATIO gear. than 1st.
so seem have more power. in REV.
sputters up is not a norm car term, but can me 2 things
  • gross engine misfire.
  • or the clutch slips. (RPM Rises but MPH goes slower.?
the engine dies/ DEAD, 0 RPM? that be>>>>
MY BEST GUESS BLIND, IS ENGINE IS:
  • ENGINE IS FLOODING , SMELL FUEL? injector leaks.
  • SPARK IS BAD,
  • OR FUEL FLOW LOSS. LEAN BURN STALLS.
  • Bad fuel, (old fuel was there before or now?).
there are lots of actual caused (parts bad)
spark parts all are old aND NO GOOD NOW. PLUGS/WIRES HV,CAP ROTOR HAS DISTRIBUTOR? YES IT IS.
BAD FUEL OR LOW FUEL PRESSURE OR CLOGGED FUEL OR AIR FILTERS.
all above assumes actual engine is ok, compression tests pass.
that is all I can figure out , not seen or driven me.
I can no see RPM and MPH dials or hear the engine sputter.

2002 CHEVY VENTURE, ran through standing water, now it starts, sputters, and stalls.

I think you should head to a mechanic. Sounds like you got water in the fuel system. You could possibly resolve the issue by filling up with a fresh tank of gas, but that could also cause more problems if there is a lot of water in there already. I'd take it to a trusted mechanic.

My 1992 toyota celica has a lower (about 800 rpm) and rougher idle. I recently have had issues with sputtering while driving, not stalling, but feels like it will. I recently bought gas while the gas...

If you feel that before getting the fuel car was fine, and something has suddenly happened after re- fueling the car, it may be due to the contaminated fuel or the clogged fuel filter.

I asked a friend about the sputtering of my car and his answer was theres a posibility that it may be my fuel pump..... is there a posibility that it is my fuel pump at all?

Well I would think that depends on the sputtering its doing. I would check my fuel filter for start. My trucks fuel pump went out and it would run and then stahl. It definetly did some sputtering, I guess you could say, between times. I had an internal water pump leak on a car I owned and it seemed to sputter the first few minutes and then it would sputter and glide and sputter and hop and it got me home at about 20 mles an hour which turned into a more of a knockin sputterin by the time I was cruisin into the driveway. I got lucky not having to get a tow cause it was internal which wasn't apt to leave me stranded as quickly. Im not a mechanic and sputtering takes on a few meanings to me so I would definitely look at a few more posts and maybe even clarifiy a little more.

change your fuel filter and check the fuel pressure on the fuel pump you may have gotten some bad fuel try some STP gas treatment make sure you have a half tank of gas and add a little more go somewhere you can drive 55MPH give these websites a try www.alldatadiy.com and www.autozone.com wish you the best of luck Michigan Man.
