Question about 1999 Jeep Wrangler
Some times my jeeps rpms will rev up higher then normal for no reason when driving or just sitting there idle its a jeep wrangler sport 4.0 manual
I have the same Jeep and same problem. The engine was running rough. The Jeep dealer fixed a vacum problem in the manifold and they then decarbonized and cleaned the fuel injectors. After these repairs the idle problem began, it would spike to 2000 rpm while sitting at idle, sometimes it would slowly come down, sometimes I would have to tap the accelerator. I took it back in and they then replaced the throttle motor and reprogrammed the PCM (Power Control Module?) Still same problem. Now they suspect a another vacuum leak and I am taking it back in on Tuesday, will let you know what happens, $ 1,300 so far.

UPDATE: They now say it is the Throttle Position Sensor, $ 99 for the part alone, Hopefully this will fix the problem, I will let you know.
UPDATE: Dealer never was able to fix the problem so I got rid of this vehicle. This has been the abxolute worst car I have ever owned. I had so many mechanical breakdowns I am amazed theat people still buy these Jeeps. I bought this Jeep new and had transmission, rear end and clutch problems from the get go. In addition there were the vacuum leaks, holes in the exhaust manifold, water leaks, most while under warranty.

TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) or anti knock sensor. you can try using carbuerator cleaner in the air intake this might free it up. If you use cleaner make sure you spray around the edges of the inside wall. Let me know if this helps
