I will tell you if you tell me what type problem your having . Plus if your planning to replace it ,it does need programming . An the dealer is pretty much the only one who can do that . I know there are no more Oldsmobile dealers any more . A Chevy , Cadillac , Buick , Dealer would be my choice. I work for A Cadillac dealer an see a number of Pontiacs an Oldsmobile vehicles needing the same work .
Using a scan tool, retrieve the percentage of remaining engine oil. Record the remaining engine oil life.




Remove the coolant reservoir retaining fastener. Remove the coolant reservoir and set aside. Remove the 3 bolts from the strut brace. Remove the left front strut brace. Loosen the two bolts the PCM cover and remove the PCM cover from the air cleaner housing. Remove the PCM from the air cleaner housing. Disconnect the PCM electrical connectors.

It is located under the dash left side above the parking brake ! There are four wiring connectors to it !

What you should do when it stalls is check to see if your loosing spark at the plugs.If you are then you probably have a bad ignition module.It is located in the rear of the motor.The ignition coils are mounted on it.One other possibility is the pcm.It is located under the dash on the passengers side.You can get a used one at most salvage yards.You will need to get the number from the old pcm.You will also have to remove the old prom from the old pcm and install it in the one you get for replacement.Hope this helps.Good luck.

The Electronic Voltage Regulator (EVR) is not a separate component. It is actually a voltage regulating circuit located within the Power train Control Module (PCM). The EVR is not serviced separately. If replacement is necessary, the PCM must be replaced. Hope this helped and best wishes.

On the 98 Silhouette, the PCM should be located in the air filter housing.
