SOURCE: BMW 525i will not start

There are six fuse panels for an E39 BMW
Fuses F1 - F45, fuse panel 1, glove compartment. Twist white plastic retainers 90 degrees and pull down from top of glove compartment.
Fuse 31 (10 amp) protects fuel pump relay(K96)

Fuses F46 - F6, fuse panel 2, trunk located behind right side luggage compartment interior panel.
Fuse 54 (15 amp) protects fuel pump relay(K96)

Before I would do any of the following, I would check the above fuses and put a bottle of HEET into the fuel tank. Fuel filter changing is not hard, but it will take you about an hour.
The fuel pump is another story (BMW has a special spanner wrench(16 1 020) to remove and install the threaded collar.

E39 BMW use a two-lobed fuel tank(think saddle bag like). Each with its own fuel level sending unit that has a float connected to a variable resistance wiper contact. To equalize fuel level between the two tank lobes, a siphon pump is installed in the left lobe. The resistances need to be approximately the same. The fuel pump is on the right lobe under the tank sending unit beneath the threaded collar at the top of the fuel tank which is accessed by removing the rear seat cushion. WARNING When removing the fuel level sender or the fuel pump, the fuel tank should be drained to 1/4 capacity or below. The fuel in the fuel line is under pressure (45-75 psi). Always unscrew the fuel tank cap to release pressure in the tank before working on the tank or lines. Disconnect battery negative cable.

The fuel filter is located beneath the center of the car near the driver's seat usually under a protective metal cover held on by small screws. Not hard to replace but car will need to be on jack stands and 1/4 tank or less of fuel in the tank. Definitely wear safety goggles or face shield as the fuel will come out on face. Have a fuel catch pan under the filter. Clamp the fuel line before and after the fuel filter(long metal cylinder) before loosening hose clamps. Loosen center clamping bracket and hose clamps on either end of filter. [Some have an inline fuel pressure regulator.(Remove vacuum hose, pull out locking clip, remove fuel pressure regulator).]
Drain fuel from inlet side of filter and check fuel for rust moisture or other contaminats.
Installation is reverse. When installing fuel filter, ensure fuel flow direction arrow points to front. Should have at least 5 liters of fuel in tank before restarting. The fuel pump will be damaged if run without fuel.

SOURCE: 1994 BMW 530i replaced the fuel pump the car will not start

i have the same problem right now. the relay is located under the big black box on passenger side of engine compartment. There are three relays in there. orange, blue and white. I dont know which is associated with the fuel pump though.

SOURCE: 2001 volvo s40 turbo.......misfire p0302.......misfire p0303

you have good fuel pressue but do you have enough volume? when was the last time the fuel filter was replaced? and remember this if you replaced the injectors did you replace as a set? oem injectors have a 1 to 2 % veriation aftermarket can have 45% veriation so always replace as a set and get a good set. or you can have driveability problems. but do the fuel filter first and it is a service item which should be changed and this sounds like a fuel filter issue. if this fails to fix it first you can have a shop test the fuel pump with a scope to check the wave pattern and check both press and vol. second on a scanner you can look at live data and check the mass air , tps , o2's the o2's should be going above 500 and below 500 switching from rich to lean , the tps check % on live data they are 0 to 100% , these items also can be checked by a volt meter for resistance a shop would know the values of each. start with the fuel filter then rule out each sensor. proccess of elimination if you do it your self google all info and diagrams you can and take your time rule out each one you will find the problem . one other thing to do is when the engine is cold start it up and spray the intake with brake cleaner listen for changes in rpm to rule out any leak from intake otr vacuum lines ect. this is a always passed over thing .

SOURCE: my car leaking fuel only time it seems to leak is

You may have a hole on your tank that at certain car position and how the tank is filled up your gas comes out of that hole. The gas may also coming out of the fixed holes of the tank such us the outlet for the fuel lines. You may want to check on that while inspecting the tank

It sounds like just a coincidence. I dont know what a GRR noise is supposed to mean. It either Cranks, No Crank, or it Cranks but does not Run. Just tow it to a qualified shop and find out what the problem is.

USA car? y/n what engine,?
sputters, not bog, do you have full power wide open throttle.
sputters means to mech, MISFIRING
if it is misfiring the OBD2 scan tool tells you it is, and even which cyclinder fails like P0301, = cyl, #1 misfire.
what is and ICA, there is no ASE listing for ICA< so you typed it wrong, my wild guess, Idel Air speed controller is yes ,that is not cause of sputter ever.
Bogging means like dragging 10,000 pound weight or pulling 2000lb boat up PIKES PEAK, CO.

here is a list for misfire, (takes tools and skills and tests to find it)
  • bad fuel (car sat over 1year not driven?)
  • bad spark
  • low fuel pressure if sputter means bogging and not misfire.
  • EGR stuck open. (if it has one , no engine stated)
  • clogged or leaking fuel injectors, will make misfire.

if bogging , add, bad MAF sensor, and low fuel pressure.

This sounds like you might have a bad plug wire or something else in the ignition system is arcing to ground. A quick way to verify this is to run the truck in Park at idle. Next, spray the ignition wires with Windex. You'll notice the truck starting to rough up and might even see the bad wire arcing to ground. A complete tuneup would be recommended in this case.
I hope this helps! :)

Feels like miss firing at higher speeds

Your caption says misfires at high, then you say low? You have a 95. Lots of miles I assume. So there are several things that would cause misfires at high and low. First is timing chain/belt, sloppy. Second, would be the valves and rings. Valves worn or bent, not seating right. rings just worn out, not holding compression. Do a compression test and see. Low speed or idle misfires can be from vacuum leaks. check hoses. Low and high rpm misfires can be from ignition problems. Wiring, coil/s, ignition modules.

172 , is 02 rich/ lean warning. this one is low oxy for rich.
this code can just be a victim. for sure , with misfire.
means 02 sensor stuck at rich,
what is water temp in engine coolant, at failure? less than 150F?
could be lots of things.
leaking injectors, bad fuel.
injector sticking> causing misfire.
id use a scan tool and watch all sensor when it fails.
too high fuel pressure.
misfires cold, but only luke warm cold starts not fully cold.

just one DTC, no P0300 or 30x misfire codes, not even P0300 pendings?

1995 jeep gr cherokee laredo jumps when first star in morning and runs rough when ac or heat on

my guess, car unseen.
car has an A/T trans, and all A/T jump from park to drive
selection is made on a cold engine, due to the very fast idle speed.
what was the park and cold idle speed. and out door temps.
the lower out door temps, make idle speed , cold engine, even higher
but when the engine reaches 180F or more and holds, the RPM
is about 800 RPM (the FSM tells the exact amount and does vary for the unstated engine option) so at 800 the tranny don;t lurch, did it on a hot engine. so if idle speeds are wrong say so and say it with engine temps. or its all meaningless.
next :
runs rough, the engine (even parked?) is called misfire.
misfire on a good engine (full compression)
is:
1: bad spark (or never had a tune up ever) every 60k miles.
2: bad fueling. too rich, too lean (low idle) bad injectors (stuck or clogged, or wrong fuel pump pressure or bad Fuel pressure regulator)
3: bad fuel.

there is a test for each possible failure. all very simple test.
it takes $80 in gauge tools to find engine problems.

The inertia switch only opens the circuit in a crash-you have to hit it kind of hard. Fuel pumps have fuses and relays and grounds ,so check power and grounds. Is this a Gas engine? The inertia switch is usually behind the right(passenger's side) kick panel under the dash,it has a big red button on top -push it down. Also the inertia switch is the last connection for power before the fuel pump ,so check for power at the switch.
