SOURCE: loud squealing from power steering pump - do I need new PS pump?

Hi Norman,

Sounds like the adjustment may not be correct on the power steering belt, with the tension not being enough, after you replaced the belt ?

Try giving it a little more tension, and go from there.

Hope I have been of help.

Good Luck !

John.

SOURCE: Help! Air conditioner causes squeal soon after turned on

The ac is belt driven, If one of the belts are loose it will make a squealing noise. Turning on the air puts more strain on the belts. If this is the case all you would have to do is tighten the belt or belts. This would probably take a service tech just a few minutes. Probably under $100.00 dollars..........

SOURCE: '96 Toyota 4-Runner makes a loud squealing noise and brake light

Sounds like one of the auxillary belts slipping it may just need tightening up. I think the 4-Runner has two belts one large and one for the steering pump

SOURCE: my van makes a squealing sound

You have 2 Serpentine belts on the left side (looking from the front) of your vehicle, these wear over time and become stretched and loose, replace BOTH as it could be either of them and when one is worn,,, the other will not be far behind. Belts are not expensive the top is pretty easy to do, the bottom which drives the power steering pump you have to remove a plastic panel in the front left(looking at the vehicle) wheel well. good luck:)

Every time I start my car, I have a loud squeal that sounds like it may be coming from either the water pump, or the A/C pump. We had the belts changed not that long ago, and soon after it started...

a few different things can be happening- your idler pulley may need to be lubed- your belt tensioner may need to be replaced- your a/c clutch may need to be lubed- or the belt itself may not be a perfect fit or is slightly(not visible at a glance)be misaligned - if the squeal goes away after driving for awhile i would thing to check the items with LUBE. if it continues all the time- suggest to your mechanic- to remove belt and check idler pulley, belt tensioner and a/c clutch by hand spinning and excess play in the bearings. good luck

At start up I have a loud squeal on my 99 Mazda 626. Both belts are new and so is the alternator. The squeal only last for about 10 secs or so and goes away. I have started it in neutral and the squeal is...

Does your car have air conditioning.? Most cars use the A/C compressor to dry the air for the defrost. It will also come on for a short time when you first start the car. With the engine running after the squeel has stopped , try turning the A/C on , If the squeel starts again , then I would think your A/C compressor is seized. Also . are you sure the 2 new belts are tight enough?

I just had my belts replaced on my 2004 Hyundai Elantra Sedan and it still squeals when i first start it up but goes away after i start driving. i added belt dressing spray and that helps but a week later...

check the tension. cheap belts will stretch. if after you retension them (especially the alternator belt) you may need to replace them with BANDO or OEM belts.
