Remove the clutch, remove one spacer washer where the clutch mounts to the compressor.

A common problem for this model. Spacing is to great for the magnet to overcome. Remove one spacer washer where the clutch is attached to the compressor. The clutch mounting hole is threaded so you can use a bolt one size larger than the mount bolt to pull it off. [Your local auto parts store will know what you need]

Cant get ac compressor to kick on

locate and remove the a/c fuse. Use an ohm meter and check across the two prongs on the fuse for continunity. If the needle on the meter moves when checking the continunity of the fuse, the fuse is good. If the fuse is good you either have low freon pressure. Low freon pressure due to a leak in the a/c system will cause the a/c compressor not to turn on. This happens because your a/c system has a low pressure sensor that will prevent the compressor from turning on in order to protect it from burning up. If you have enough freon in the system which can be checked with an a/c manifold gauges then you probably have a bad a/c compressor. Hope this information helps.

Compressor clicks 2000 chevy silverado 1500 5.3L

First thing is have the AC charge checked by a shop, if that is OK then the AC compressor low side pressure switch may be defective or the compressor relay is defective.

Where do I replace freon?

IIRC there is a Shreader valve with a plastic/rubber cap along one of the AC lines near the compressor. Follow the AC lines and you will see it.

The AC compressor clutch repeatedly tries to kick in when the AC is off (vent or defrost is on) in my 2006 Ford Ranger. What to do?

The ac compressor will cycle when in the defrost position. The system is designed this way, so that the freon will circulate at times in the system so the seals don't get hard or crack. Otherwise, you would have to replace the seals in your ac about once a year. If it is cycling too often then the freon may be liw and the system needs recharged. If your ac does not work and you are not going to repair the system. You can unplug the compressor so it won't come on and put a load on the engine.

My ac doesnt work in my 2001 tahoe. i bought freon for it. the compressor is not kicking on when i turn the ac on, but the gage shows in the red when i hook it up to try and put freon in it. i shot a...

the a/c system needs a minimum pressure before the system will run. the system must have a leak so just buying freon may last a day or a few months depending on the size of the leak. also leaking freon into the air is ozone depleating, it should be recovered properly.

the system needs to be recoved of all freon. vacuum to -30psi held checked for leaks. (uv dye or nitrogen and soapy water). leaks fixed. vacuum to evacuate moisture and air. refilled with proper amount of freon (too much or too little make the air not as cold).

the compressor doesn't have to be working for the gas to go in
you connect the gas to the inlet line and as the gas pressure in the system rises , the ac compressor will cut in normally and suck in the rest until the pressures are correct
of course you have to be putting in the correct gas because the switches are different
