I have a 91 Volvo 940se turbo that had a intermittent stalling problem. It would shut down at speeds of 45-55mph or at idle. I would let it sit a minute and restart. It would restart and perform fine. I came out to go to work in the morning, it started up and I drove to the gas station where I filled it up with gas. When I went to start it again, it would not start. It would crank but no start. I had it towed to a service station, where they replaced the fuel pump relay. Now it has no spark. What do you think?

I would check rotor button (under the distributer cap) or the coil wire itself first. My guess is that you had a spark problem all along and they mis-diagnosed it in the begining.

Immobilizer is shutting the car down most likely. Try a different key see if it happens to the other key or bring it to volvo and have them get a new key for it. And have them check the anntenna for the immobilizer. The immobilizer system will shut the car off if it does not sense the correct wireless signature from the key, after a few seconds. You can take the key out of the ignition then reinsert it, try again see if it starts.

More common problems not volvo specific:Plugged fuel injectors maybe, turbo controller problem maybe. Or an ignition control module problem after it heats up. Hard to tell.

I used to have that same exact model and year of car and it had a turbo controller problem that would only be noticeable if at high altitude, 5000ft or above and engine under significant load( climbing a long hill) the engine would surge up and down constantly. Replaced the turbo controller and it was fixed.

Good luck with that

1999 eclipse manual trans.2.0 engine non-turbo kills when stopping

Engine stall or RPM fluctuates at idle.

This problem is commonly caused by a dirty automatic idle speed control valve and throttle valve. Buy a can of throttle valve cleaner (do not use carburetor spray cleaner!) from NAPA or Carquest (made by CRC chemicals) and spray it into the air intake while the engine is running, use up about 1/2 the can, engine will try to stall hold the speed up, shut it down and let it soak for 30 minutes, restart and blow out the remaining fluid, shut it down and disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 Min's to reset the base idle control

1999 Volvo S70 Stalls at stop signs and traffic lights

These models had a problem with the electronic control modules, and this is what controls the idle speed. Sometimes they just need to be cleaned, but sometimes they are defective. Volvo has extended the warranty on some of them to 10 years or 200,000 miles if it is found to be defective.

Turbo problems...

These sound like the classic Ethanol problems I was getting, keep using it in that model and it'll start stalling too!! For some reason the ethanol doesn't go well with our o2 sensor, cakes it with carbon from the alcohol, I poured a bottle of octane booster and filled up with non-ethanol and haven't had the problem since
