Check Engine Light came on and says Cruise Ctonrol Not Available, Jaguar Dealer says it may be a Vacuume Leak, any idea??
My car,2003 Jaguar X-type 3.0 was driving fine and while I was driving my check engine light came on, at that same time in the information center it said Cruise Control Not Available. Also when I was accelerating it seemed to miss or not want to pick up I would feel my car studder. What could be a possible issue, the Jaguar Dealer said it could be a vacuume leak? I'm trying to avoid taking it there if possible. Thanks, James Hartman [email protected] While driving my check engine light came on, and then then the "cruse control not available" came on in the information center. Also as i accelerated the engine started to miss and shudder. Then the brakes have lost the power, they are like manual brakes, you have to forcefully press on them. They work ok, but you really have to press hard on them
Re: Check Engine Light came on and says Cruise Ctonrol...
Yes it sounds like a vacuum leak possibly the line going to the brake booster try to start the car open the hood and listen for a hissing noise you may be able to inpoint where the leak is and fix it with a new piece of hose or a fitting

check fuses check battery and alternator to make sure check connections to battery reset the stuff see if it comes back may just be from battery being off your radio also dosent work or does it
It sounds as if the fuse which controls cruise control has burned out. Either open the fuse box, or take it to a dealership to get it fixed. I'd go to the dealer, since a Jag is an expensive piece of machinery and they probably cover it for free.
Do you have access to a good OBD-II reader with live data readout?
The key is to get to the short term fuel trim information.
You has a vacuum leak on the engine.
In order to troubleshoot this, you must start with a clean engine wipe down.
The major offender parts are
air intake gasket on the manifold
air tube after the mass air flow sensor
rubber seal under idle air control IAC motor
===
Warm up the engine for 15-20 minutes (LEAVE THE engine at idle) then
spray a little Barmen carburetor clear on the potential air leak
location (ONE AT A TIME) and listen for a surge in rpm.
If the engine speed go higher that's mean the carburetor cleaner
(ADDITIONAL FUEL) got into your engine and that's the gasket you need
to change.
There may be multiple leaky spots so take your time and check all
rubber gaskets, sensor and hose that are lead into the intake manifold.
When you finish fill up with one tank of Chervon to clean out the injectors.
Try to get a toque wrench and tighten ever bolt on the valve cover back
to specification. If you can not get hold of one then just give
each bolt a gentle 1/6 turn.
Please post more information after your inspection.
PCV hose. I had the same problem...Hear air escaping from mine..I just put some hose tape over mine, and when I got the cruise not available and check engine again, sure enough..tape was coming off...replace the hose..problem solved.
My 2002 x-type did the exact same thing on many occasions and had many repeated trips to the dealership. This problem was ultimately cased by cracked hoses in the car's vacuum system (which is used in the cruise control and brakes). Have the dealer check the vacuum lines and the breather hose (mine had completely collapsed). Chances are they are leaking and causing your car to "buck" and the cruise to not work. Don't ignore this as it will affect the functionality of your brakes too over the longer term.
replace the 2 large rubber o-rings in the intake manifold - passenger side - behind the 2 large plastic valves with electrical connectors. probably 3 or 4" in diameter.
When I went outside to start my Jaguar X-Type it was cold outside. I was in a hurry and didn't let the car warm up properly. It jumped a bit then the check engine light came on along with a message that said No cruise control. The no cruise light came off but my check engine light is still on. Any suggestions as to what it may be?
Thanks, that is exactly what it was...Appreciate your help.
