Question about Nissan Titan

1 Answer

My 2005 nissan titan check engine lite came on and upon having a certified mechanic testing it he tells me it's the cat.converters...so at 140,000miles I assumed he was right..he replaced only the one he says is bad and spent about 1,350.00...The truck ran great for about a month and i noticed a lot of white exhaust smoke approx.every 4 or 5 cold starts and once again check engine lite came on..took it back in with the same repair shop and upon further evaluation he tells me it's the other cat"now is bad and i had it replaced for about another 1400.00 bucks..also i should mention that both manifold sensors were replaced when each "cat"was being installed...the truck drove great for about another 3 weeks and then the tall tell signs of white exhaust smoke started to show up again upon start up and of course soon after my check engine lite came on...does anyone know what I could be dealing with?

Sorry to hear that you spent that dough on a possible head gasket issue . Did the mechanic get told about the white smoke ?
You will get an OBDII error code on O2 sensors when the motor is burning antifreeze . Nissan should be as long lived as my Subaru sensors being Japanese (still going at 690000 km)
Can you connect rad pressure gauge when cold and start up and note if pressure rises relatively fast...should rise slow and steady .
Can you get a whiff of exhaust when burning white , sickly sweet smell or such .

SOURCE: 99 f250 v10 auto 4x4-cat converter imploded,

The fuel pressure sounds too low. Is it multi-port injection? Check the fuel pressure against your specs for the car and engine. MPFI systems usually require 40-50 psi.

I empty the catalyct converter on 07 Nissan Titan and codep0420 and p0430 come up. How can I get rid of the check engine ligth

fit new cat converters as not having them is the problem
You gain nothing by what you have done except make the performance and economy of the engine deceases , put your self in fault with state legislation and face more costs than what new converters would cost
who ever told you that cat converters cause problems , has given you wrong advice which you would have checked had you bothered to have the fault codes read first

My car wont pass smog.. the check engine lite is NOT ON.. but smog tests come back as INCOMPLETE... the computer isnt sending any info... what can i do ??

THE FUSE IS PROBABLY BLOWN FOR YOUR OB2 PORT, THIS IS WHERE THEY PLUG INTO, A LOT OF THE TIME THIS FUSE IS TIED IN WITH OTHER ACCESSORIES SUCH AS CIGARETTE LIGHTER, CHECK YOUR FUSES AND CHANGE FAULTY ONES.
THE GARAGE WONT TELL YOU THIS BECAUSE THEY WANT TO CHARGE A DIAGNOSTIC FEE.

Catalytic converter is missing. The only thing in the housing is a metal ring. There are no signs of theft.

Receiving engine code p0420 on my 2005 altima 2.5 s

A p0420 code indicates a Catalytic System efficiency failure, Bank 1.
Basically, the computer is seeing reduced efficiency of the catalytic converter or one of it's components (such as an 02 sensor)

There may be a few root causes, such as a faulty oxygen sensor, faulty coolant temperature sensor, faulty converter, Large exhaust leak, or retarded (slow) timing.

Catalytic convertors melt down and come apart have you ever heard of this due to a lean condition from the fuel pump = shop is stating that the pump gets hot runs lean and then the convertors melt down...

I don't see that happening because exhaust gases are forced away from the engine and that would cause the converter pieces to flow out of the tail pipe not only that but catalytic converters don't get problems from engine running lean it happens from running rich causing excess fuel to burn in the converter and melt it

Catalytic Converters

Yes any mechanic with a code scanner will be able to tell you if one or both are bad. each one has its own code. If it is a front cat then it should be a up stream cat and if it is the one further from the motor then it will be a down stream cat
