Question about Volkswagen Cars & Trucks
My 2000 VW Beatle has the electrical malfunction warning light on(rear spoiler if blinking). It was running rough and now I can't get the engine to turn over to start it even with a jump. Any ideas?
Run fault codes to find out what sensors have failed . Check that there is coolant and oil on the dip stick as the rough running may have been over heating or bearings seizing

I had the same problem. Have it checked at an checkers with one of their computers. I had a multi misfiring. I changed the ignition module on it. It runs great now.

Have the alternator tested. You are providing a low charge to the battery when you jump it and when taking it above 2K RPM requires more amperage resulting in the engine dying and the rough idle

Check the coil pack. Same symptoms on mine. It went at 74,000.
You can get the resistance specs from a shop manual. I have been told the plastic engine cover traps heat and makes short life of the coil pack. I removed the top engin cover, cosmetic only after replacing mine. You will probably need spark plugs also they are probably fowled by now. If you have not changed spark plug wires in awhile in would not hurt.
