Sounds like the valve guides are leaking oil into the cylinders, or there is a coolant leak somewhere. Usually white smoke is coolant but could be oil. Are you adding either fluid often ?
valve seals allowing oil into cylinders
oil ring on piston broken
worn valve guide in head
blue smoke means ur burning oil
black smoke burning to much fuel
white smoke burning coolant
the landrover part makes my wallet hide
leaving it will only foul up your plugs, crud up inside the engine
and eventualy kill it. no quick cheap fix there sorry
if it smokes when you start moving , and then clears the first thing to do is change the air filter, even if it looks clean. i would not even start looking for other causes until this has been done. do not run the car without an air filter to test it as this will affect the airflow and can cause problems on its own. filters are very cheap and readily available. the slightest dirt on an air filter can reduce the air flow through it and while it may not appear dirty, it can affect airflow enough to result in a rich fuel mix being burnt under power, resulting in smoke. as you get up to speed and ease up on the throttle, not as much air is needed and enough can frow through the filter giving the correct fuel mix and less smoke.
if this does not work please feel free to ask again but 99 times out of 100 a new air filter will cure smoke when pulling away in a fairly new car.
It's possible you overfilled the power steering reservoir or perhaps spilled some that leaked down on the exhaust manifold. That would cause a lot of smoke until it burned off.
Hi , I`m not sure about the 01 model but the 98 model got this roker cover gasket problem because it`s too close to the exhaust and with time can`t handle the heat.So when you rev the car , dropping oil on to the exhaust and one little drop of oil can make big smoke which coming up around the turbo. Hope this helps .
You are burning oil, causing the blue smoke. It is mainly cause by worn piston rings. Also will coat your spark plugs with oily residue. Try an oil additive such as "stop smoke" or another such brand to reduce burning your oil and it may recondition your seal sand stop it all together.
