When I crank up and put the car in drive it knocks/jerks hard it doesnt do it when put in reverse or neutral

A/T , my guess is bad CV joints, the play is taken up when
you select drive.
the play in the joint wear in a polar fashion, because you never drive in reverse far, so drive direction is the wear direction
and that is it.
a mech, inspects the CV by hand (called "man handling", tires off ground) and feels the play, oops bad
all this, is a hands on deal.
i can be full of beans, after all im just a net bunny.
retired, mech. but , I cant fix cars, hands free, not now or ever.
when you take a CV apart , inside , look at the shape of the wear
and you will understand this.....

Sounds like the car is just slipping out of gear. Keep your hand on the shifter when you back up next time. See if you can feel the shifter move when the car comes out of gear. If the shifter moves up when it happens keep pressure on the shifter holding it back like you dont want it to move forward. And of course if the shifter moves back when it comes out of gear, put forward pressure on the shifter so it doesnt slip out. This might work for now but but i know i wouldnt want to spen 700 for that ****. Let me know how it goes.
