Engene tempetute gage shows moving up and down
SOURCE: temperature gage in truck doesn't work neither does gas gage
did you check all the ground wires to make sue you have a good ground
SOURCE: 1997 F150 heater problem
your problem is caused by the air temperature control blend door actuator motor being defective, the little motor moves the door that gives either hot air or cold air or a blend of the 2.

Hi
You need to bleed the heater system, suspect you still have an air lock in it.
Slacken off outlet side of heater, hose clip. and run engine at 1000rpm, pull off the hose, once the flow is coming out constant, refit hose and tighten clip, and top up coolant.
Good Luck !
A FixYa would be appreciated !........ Thanks....John

Alot of people try to do this repair themselves loosen the dash on passenger side of vehicle take out two top bolts of evap housing on engine side and two nuts on passenger compartment side of heater box one bolt under the wiper motor. also top right corner of evap housing has another nut under the case on the stud this will keep you stumped unless you know about it. good luck
