2000 Impala will start sometimes, ignition or solenoid
My 2000 Impala 3.4L has frequent problems starting. It will start then after several times it will not. Playing with the key switch will sometimes start it and and jumping it will usually start every time. The battery and cables have been replaced since this has stared and connections rechecked. Anybody got ideas what this problem is, ignition switch or solenoid possibly?

It sounds like you have an issue with your PassLock security system. I had the same with my 2002 Impala. Key turns OK, but won't start, won't crank. Wait 20-30 minutes, and car starts normally. There is usually a clue from the Battery and Security lights.
The problem starting to happen once a month, and eventually 1-2 times a week.
There are several write-ups on this problem for several GM cars for 2000-2006(?). Search this website, and search the web.
The official solution is to replace the ignition switch. The best solution is to bypass the Pass Lock system. I went ahead and did a full bypass, which involves cutting wires and adding resistors to the ignition circuit. I have not had a problem since.
most commonly diagnosed component is the shifter and/or shifter solenoid on your Impala. GM issued a bulletin on this problem. Contact your dealer, they are aware of the problem and you could be covered under warranty. Below is a copy of the bulletin.

Impala Good luck, i hope this helps.
Sounds like a "dead spot" in the starter solenoid. Not sure if you will have to replace the entire starter assembly or just the solenoid. Some GM starters have a solenoid that can't be replaced seperatly.
A trip or call to your local parts store (O'Reilly's / Advance Auto) might be helpful.. explain your problem and see what they think.
